you have to apply with a manuscript of your writing to get into the classes and i just did that and got accepted into screenplay and short story fiction writing...so ask me again at the end of next school year! i'm hoping it's good :) now i have to plan my entire schedule around those two classes though. |

i write mostly short stories and short screen plays. i've been slowly working on a novel for the past two years or so, but since i'm so busy with school and stuff i hardly have time to really work on it that much. i wish i did. sometimes i write poetry, but i don't really dig a lot of the poetry i write.
i would love to exchange stuff with you sometime. get some criticism and such, if you're down with that. |

Aight i'll attempt to write something, sometimes i have great ideas. I just find it hard to get in that zone and actually complete something.
I like writing critiques and analysis of ideas and concepts. I should try my hand at some fiction though. |

yeah man, one of the hardest parts it getting from the idea-zone to the writing-zone. they are so different it's like they are on the opposites sides of the creative writing world. i really have to force myself to sit down and write sometimes, but i'm glad i do because i usually get something out of those sessions.
i always keep my writing notebook around with me as well because inspiration pops up in the weirdest places sometimes and i don't want to miss something. it's full of random sentences, paragraphs, ideas and drawings. |

Jake, stop whining... "Oh no, I've declared my major, I'm sooooooo old." No your not, you're like 18 still. Now when I go back this fall and take classes with all you little kids, then I will for surely feel quite ancient indeed. ps. have you registered yet? |

sean: sociology definitly involves a lot of writing, but hell, i love writing. it doesn't really allow me to do any creative writing though, since most of it is essays and papers and such. you hate sociology now? i've always been interested in it, ever since i was a kid.
bryan: stop comparing my life to yours all the time. yes, in comparison to you, i'm not that old (i'm NOT 18 by the way...i'm less than two months from being 20). but i feel old when i think about myself and when i think about how my sister is graduating high school next year. not everything is in comparison to your own life ;) i haven't registered my courses yet (july 5th) but i have declared my major online. and yeah, i heard the Creative Writing program was really good here too (hence hard to get into the major program) so i'm excited about the classes that i do have. |

^that makes me feel better.
also, simon, you'll be happy to know that i want to take a poli sci course (or a couple) could you recommend some to me? do i have to take the 100 classes to be able to take the upper level ones (and will i be completely lost if i don't take those). i was looking at 101: Canadian Government. any help would be appreciated! |

International relations courses are fun poli sci, at least i thought it was. I have no idea what i'm gonna do with my poli sci degree, i just know i enjoy it alot, along with history and writing. I was thinking of getting into journalism maybe, dunno what else u can do with a poli sci degree besides going into LAW.

You need a portfolio to apply to the UBC school of journalism, so i guess i should try and get into the douglas school news paper and such. I was thinking of getting a poli sci degree at UBC to give me time to smarten up, get some quality work for my portfolio before applying to the school of journalism.

there's also a new paper coming out called 'transformational times' and they're looking for writers, i know. i can hook you up with the email address if you like. i'm still deciding whether i want to do it or not. it's supposed to be all uplifting stories to combat all the sad and scary ones in the news right now. but i'm too cycnical and sarcastic to write uplifting stories about people overcoming hard times.
