Sometimes five or six times a day, without music, venue, high people . How? Well I have had so many amazing times (high and not), met so many awesome people, listened to so many great tunes over the course of my years at shows. Sometimes even a t-shirt, a sound, a side step will instantly take me back to a moment that I would only confuse to being to explain. Tucked way back in the attic for a brief moment the dust blows off a brain cell and the lights, the "high people", music, the feeling and excitement are all there. Don’t look at just the physical aspect. There is so much more to this buzz culture term “Rave”. To me thats the MAIN part of it. Not so much being there, cuz hell there is so many it's like your always there. It's the refined memories when THERE ment something. |

But just because you're raving at work doesn't mean you're at a frikkin' rave. Unless all life is a rave. And everything is music! STFU, Bjork. |

ok....
everyone talking about wanting to go to small parties, wtf. i go to a party every weekend, they are small! and there is booze, i dont know where you guys have all been..... but they are lacking in alot of areas. my first party i did giveaways, it was pimp! and you know decorations and shit, and actual party, not some hurting 150 people rave type thing... i think we need more attractions, more things to do at the parties, make it more a party. well, some people and i are working on those things, BUT LET ME SAY THIS: WE CAN NOT PROVIDE EXTRA THINGS IF PEOPLE THINK THEY DO NOT HAVE TO PAY COVER! as promoters, we dont make shit usually. we are lucky to break even and that is because people dont chip in. YOU WANT GOOD PARTIES, WELL THINGS COST MONEY. we all have to do our part! |

What i think the scene is missing!? the roots.. techno, hhc, acid, 303 MADDNESS! Improve: Less mainstream crowd, better advertising, smaller parties, etc. back into the underground so puds wont be able to find the rave thus making it much better |

I agree with ppcock on this one.... Not enough techno,acid,hhc,etc....
It seems like every dj at least in vancouver pretty much has the same exact tracks. So its like your going to hear the same track twice but just mixed differently. So its always the same music over and over and over. I swear I heard "Shivers" by armin van buuren twice at IMF.......... Once by John O'callagan and I think once from Jimmy Chou. Aside to that yes raves need to be more underground and be more experimental in regards to the genre's that are out there. Having to hear the same genre's at every event is slowly killing everything |

Be thankful for them while you still have them. There are very few out here.
I know what you mean about tracks... It's so weird. It's like dude. GET SOME NEW REKKIRDS! seriously... there's good tracks out there, but some dj's are just being lazy about it. |

Actually Ashes,
Its the new records that are being played out Its worse than Z95 when you hear 8 of the same tunes by 8 different dj's I like go for the older stuff not even the most popular stuff. Giving the crowd who probably dont know the older trance, techno something that they think is new but in reality its 5-7 years old. |
|
|||
Well I'd have to disagree. I think it's that they are all shopping for records at the same places, and buying whats "popular" which is totally weak sauce.
I'm saying, when buying new records, they should strive to find sick tracks that don't get much *bling bling* kinda attention. more undergound beats, independent labels, etc. I don't think playing out old tracks is the answer either. |

Yes, of course it seems a bit redundant....everyone wants to continue having a repeating experience of simply having a good time. After that, its basically up to the individual what they want to get out of it.
As far as the scene goes, comercially, well, vancouver's pretty much always been a tough sell to get ANYONE out to a show. I guess it's because of the fact that for the most part Vancouver is a very out door'sey city, thus a lot of the public's dollar will be spent on exactly that. Now if its not out door activities that the promotor would be up against, they're also up against, A.)BC Lions Home games B.) (in the winter) Hockey C.)Live Theatre & Cinemas; let alone having ample oppertunity to drop a lot of cash one weekend just by staying on Granville street and club hop. So with that in mind, Vancouver has gone through several different phases for the past 10 years in the entertainment industry, and for the exception of the promotors who have a lot of money, Id say probably about 30% will not take any chances and use the shot gun effect, and try and hit as much of the public as possible to try and break even. But it'll be interesting to see what happens in the next few years, as the city becomes more populus. I must admit I've seen some good improvements to the scene, and I've seen somethings which have taken a step or two back, but in the end, there always will be a reoccuring commonality associated with the scene |

It seems that a lot of dj's only like to drop the new popular songs, when really you could get a crowd rockin better to some 80s classics. To all the dj's, dont be afraid to mix it up, play some older stuff with some new, be unique. For the LOVE OF GOD dont bore us while you stand there looking and twisting knobs on the mixer making it look like its ROCKET SCIENCE. I think more energy behind the decks is whats lacking the most. |
