Even white people immigrating to Canada, years ago were oppressed (think of the eastern europeans! the irish! jewish! french!).

If you shrug it off and realize it IS only a word (like someone else said) that some goof called you, who cares? Is it worth your consideration? That said, I still don't think using racial slurs is GOOD, of course, and white trash should be considered one. However, to me, I wouldn't be overly offended (other than the fact that they are calling me shit). I just don't see how the colour of someone's skin has anything to do with who they are... It's a pretty weak attack, if you ask me.

These days people still feel the urge to use violance to get their point across. I know that violance doesn't solve anything, just makes things worse, but some people have different views on that. I have no idea why my buddy felt the urge to pipe the guy, I'm guessing it was a in the heat of the moment kinda thing.
But why did the other guy feel the urge to call my buddy white trash? My buddy never called him a "******". What was the point of him calling my buddy "white trash", my buddy is the last thing from white trash. My buddy doesn't look or act anything like whte trash. Most people assosiate the term "white trash" with someone from a trailor park. I personally don't know why people still use these derogatory terms.

I don't really see the term 'white trash' as a racial slur, probably because most of the people who I hear using this term are white themselves. this reminds me of this time during halloween when I went to a store to buy a costume. they had this costume for sale of a garbage bin, and on the hat, it said 'white trash'. I showed it to my white bf and he thought it was hilarious. fuck, if I was white, I probably would've bought it! I think the fact that they can have a 'white trash' costume without herds of protesters screaming that this is racist, gives me the idea that the term 'white trash' may not be as much of a racial slur as some of you guys on this thread make it out to be. --Joanne :P

This reminds me of this commercial I say one day with my two friends (who are black). The commericial was called "****** Please", it was about a cereal.
In the commercial it show's a black family eating breakfast and the kid yell's out I want more "****** Please" please. The name of the cereal was called "****** Please". We all thought it was hilarious, especially my friends. They call each other "******" like 24/7 and nobody gets offended. Same thing for "white trash", it just sounds funny take Trailor Park Boys for example, I'm white and I think that show is hilarious, also none of my white friends take offense to it. Just don't let it get to you if someone calls you that, simple as that.

fable, you make a lot of great points and I agree with a lot of what you are saying, but don't you realize that you are perpetuating the very problem you speak out against when you racially profile people? And come on man, ranking groups of people based on how oppressed you think they are on a global level? You have no way of knowing what kind of lives the people on this board have lived, and just because someone doesn't belong to a demographic that you see as legtimately oppressed doesn't mean they don't know what it's like to be the little guy getting shit all over. There are many different forms of oppression, so don't try to invalidate someone else's experiences.
You talk a lot of sense man, but it's a little hard to take you seriously when you contradict yourself from one post to the next.
