eventhough you all hate me im gonna put in my two cents neways..i come from a very racist background...father, brothers, cousins, aunts, MOTHER, grandmother, uncles..and so on and so on had extreme nazi tendancies, and as of about a year ago so did i, it was very hard for me to accept different races and backgrounds as friends..put it to you this way it got so bad that one day i was sent home crying in grd 3 because the seating plan put me next to a girl or ethenic background, my mother came to the school and had a talk with the principal, and i never got places beside her again, i got taught to not accept people, that wasnt my fault, but growing up it never left me, i have 3 older brothers who were the typical wanna be "skinheads"...they have all since been beaten, broken and pretty much written off, weather it be in jail rehab or escaping the country, i have had issues myself with people that arnt white just for the simple fact that it got drilled into me at a young age, but it dawned on me...god dosent care what color you are, there is just as many white pimps as black, blue, green, and yellow.. i would think it would be really cool to practice being a buddist, and i wanna marry a jew(jk)..but still it would be cool, the way the world is now there is no room for racism, and whatever slurs someone is willing to spit fourth they need to realize the reprocussions of them, yes racisim has lessened in a sence but i dont like to be called white trash. cuz im not white trash, white trash is in a fuckin trailer in the middle of kansas married to its brother..just like im sure a black person dosent like me sayin "*****"...or a brown person...yeah...neways

point is that racisim will never die, everyone just needs to accept the fact that were all gonna be one color one day weather we like it or not
and racisim towards gays dosent really apply, were all gay with enuf alcohol

yes, racism in the past...sheesh i cant even fathom the madness. And it was widespread too, it seemed like everyone was against everyone! Even in the "european communities" italians vs. irish, jewish vs catholics and korean vs. japanese, french vs chinese, etc etc etc.

I dont believe that there is has been really much bickering in this thread asides from me losing my shit once. i'm sure most of the people here haven't experienced extreme forms of racism such as what goes on in the rest of the world. Torture etc. Yes i agree with your statements of racism subjugating a whole class on a macrolevel and emotional abuse can be individually orientated. Yes i was equating racism with emotional abuse, it can be seen as a form of emotional abuse can it not? And it can be seen as how you see it on the larger scale. It's interchangable in my eyes. I am of course dealing with the type of racism that normal people deal with in the community we live in; not racial gang violence because people who partake in that do so on their own means.

Basically my point was, yes, that 'racism' is a lot bigger then mear slander and name calling. I'm talking strictly individual level, someone who has been abused emotionally has it way worse then someone who gets the occasional racial slur thrown their way. That person can shrug it off and go about his business even though it has much broader implications internationally. So basically shrug it off when someone calls you a name. If you are in a situation such as Arar or pitted against some militant group in another country, then your justified.

Do you feel that America with it's increasing religious-right movement is moving towards a more secular society? It has been gaining strength and becoming further entrenched in politics since the 70s. The founding United State's idealogies actually have more secular thought in it then todays political enviroment.

My point wasn't at all about racism, but other forms of discrimination that were unmentioned before. I could say men have it easier than women and open a whole can of worms there. Don't laugh at me, because as I mentioned to fable, you've never lived a day in your life in my shoes, and you certainly don't have the same expectations of your family/culture/religion as I do, you were not raised to be a baby factory, to clean the house and keep your goddamned mouth shut.
