I have to say.. heading into the match I was on Spain's side. But they did not deserve to win that game. A whole lot of flopping around, and just generally looking impotent against France's defense.
I don't care for France, but I hate Brazil, and if that was what Spain had when the going got tough, then France has a better chance of beating them. Quote:
Anyways, all questions about whether they can perform against real opposition will be answered on Friday. Personally, I think it's going to be one hell of a match :) |

seriously heart broken that spain didn't make it through, but I do agree France deserved to win that game.
I'm actually afraid of brasils odds against the french... so far no team has really stepped up to brasil. Looks like the France has a good chance to take the next game. Altho BRA is leading GFA by 1... so it'll be a good match non the less. |

Oh, and in case anyone was hoping for a scathing reply to Jim's attack on England, well.. I don't really have one. Most of his criticisms are warranted, to an extent.
A few counter points though: Beckham is mostly over-rated by the tabloids, and by people who don't know anything about football. People who DO know something about football know that he hasn't beaten a defender with a run in something like 5 years, and he really is one dimensional.. at least, in the sense that he has only one talent that is far above par. That said, games are won and lost on set pieces. I can't think of many players I'd rather have taking them than Beckham. And over the past 6 games (2 friendlies, 4 WC games), his defense has actually been fairly solid, save the Sweden match in which the entire team took the day off in the 2nd half. He's not in it for his defending, he's not in it for his pace. Those elements are covered by other players on our team. And another thing you can't question, besides his ability to bend it like.. well, him: his heart. He was sick as a dog during Sunday's match, but he fought through it and provided us with a goal we desperately needed. As for Rooney, well.. my original prediction for this World Cup was that he'd fuck things up by bitching too much/being too violent and get a red card and/or suspension. And he still might! But the guy has always been a freak of nature, and there's mounting evidence that an injury that has kept other players out for months has been overcome. Saturday will be a great test to see one way or the other. Eriksson?.. the less said the better. He lacks passion to motivate, his decisions range from questionable to bizzare.. there's a reason these are his last days as England's coach. Finally, Jim, you're telling us that England is not a dominating force? All the papers/press/fans have done over here for the past 3 weeks is wring their hands about how poor our side has looked, how we've just squeeked out the necessary decisions. I don't know who you think you're arguing against, but it's no-one in this country! |
