You're way off base here, Jim.
If Rooney is going to re-injure himself, he's going to re-injure himself. If he's not ready, he's not ready. Another 3 or 4 days isn't going to make much difference. We're going to find out about whether the break has really healed sooner or later, so why not find out now, so that if worst comes to worst we can adjust before the knockout stages, as opposed to having him go down in the middle of our round of 16 game and having the whole team freak out.
Of course, the main reason we need to play him now is because he's hardly touched a football in competitive action since he was injured. Strikers need time to get their scoring touch back and find their game.. as it is, he doesn't have nearly as much time as England would like to get back on form. To leave him out another game and throw him, cold, into the knockout stages would be ludicrous.
