seems a little bit much for mitchell.
but judging by the activity so far there won't be many capable veteran d-men around if we sleep at all. nonis is on the ball so far. /sad that marc savard, cullen, langenbrunner are already off the market. |

The prices he's giving are off the scale. 27 million for luongo. 3.5 million for a willie mitchell. what next 6 million for morisson and 4 million or something for ruutu i wouldn't be surprised at all. though luongo i can understand if he does real well which he might but mitchell is no l uongo or even an ohlund. he don't deserve anything about 3.. |

Then again, in terms of the high prices, the current ownership agreement means players in the NHL will make a maximum of 54% of the revenues. These prices don't really exist. They'll all have to pay back money out of their own pockets to even it up. That said, Mitchell would've been a great pickup for less than 3/year.

Jay Mckee 4 years 16 million Nick Boynton 3 years 8.85 million Joe Corvo 4 years 10.5 million Willie Mitchell 4 years 14 million How is that "off the scale?" But hey maybe I should just take a leap of faith (cause that's all it is) and get on the Nonis hate wagon. |

Nick Boynton 25-30/year @ <$3 Joe Corvo got 40 points last year @ <$3 Jay McKee is the only one there who got a little overpaid for but I think that's largely due to his playoff run last year. He was the leading shotblocker in the playoffs after game 6. Is Willie Mitchell one of the league's leading shotblockers? If not, he got overpaid. Now how much money do we have to get an offensive dman? Last edited by Mangle; Jul 02, 06 at 01:15 PM. |

Boynton is coming off an 12 point minus 7 season but hey maybe you'd rather Nonis signed him. He has definite potential but at 27 he better start reaching it. Joe Corvo getting 40 points represents a break out season for him. If he keeps it up he could make Ottawa look good. Jay Mckee and Willie Mitchell are out of all of the players mentioned have the most in common. They are both large stay at home defence men with very similar career numbers. Mckee helped the Sabres on their playoff run this year while Mitchell helped Minnesota during their 02-03 run to the conference finals. Anyone remember Mitchell making Bertuzzi look all but invisible? Bottom line is that like him or not his salary is not out of line with what other defence men of similar calibre are getting paid. |

i for one would much rather see a consistent defensive force like mitchell back there.
ohlund can't be the only one who keeps forwards honest. bryan allen kinda did that but inconsistently. besides, we shouldn't be depending on our defence for points like this team had a tendency to do. /bourdon factor |
