the whole point of this thread is that there shouldn't be any kind of lead to follow in music, and the life that surrounds it.

The punk scene is the same way in Van. I'd get ragged on for wearing the clothes I wear on a daily basis to a show. Even though I was giving it in the moshpit as hard as anyone else and loved the music as much as anyone of them, because I didn't look the part I received nothing but disrespect. I just didn't "fit in" with the crowd because I'm not the kind of person to define myself by the standards that they perceive deem a person worthy of taking part in the culture.

But I seem to be the only one in this thread that sees a problem with it.

Tiedye: There really isn't an intelligent conversation to be had on this subject. If there was one, it would have been had years ago. Try to think of any valid points in opposition to your opinion. If you can find some, then try to understand what motivates that line of reasoning. That will probably help you get over this identity issue.

But you are having an identity issue. You have an issue with other's identity. That is why i asked you to try and see thier behaviour from thier perspective. ie: What benefit do those proud to be a part of a certain group while excluding others from the same group derive?

There are two ways of looking at it, which basically sum up to the same thing.

Said group believes that it secures their cultural identity.

Said excluded group believes that the culture is ignorant and close minded.

But the only way I can really comprehend this way of thinking, is that the certain group is rejecting anyone who doesn't fit into their status quo simply to maintain an image they want the world to perceive.
