This thread is STRICTLY HIP HOP. List your top 5 HIP HOP albums of '07. I don't want to hear about some trance album by dj smurfen beats.
1. Marco Polo - Port Authority 2. Blu & Exile - Below the Heavens 3. Dev Rocka - The Night Shift 4. Charon Don & DJ Huggy - Art of Life 5. Talib Kweli - Eardrum Last edited by RochesterSS; Dec 11, 07 at 06:58 PM. |

Love how the thread starter posted this in Hip Hop, posted hip hop releases probably expecting others to follow suit, and lo and behold, hardly a hip hop entry after.
Oh, mine? Um... LCD Soundsystem - Sound Of Silver Asura - Life² Mistical - The Eleventh Hour Olien - Sounded Paratronic Ceephax - Volume 2 |

And '07 was a great year for hip hop. So many gems. You'll have to turn off MuchMusic to find them though |

07 was a disappointment, with strides forward only made by the mainstream rather than the underground. mixtapes were shit this year, maybe *5 stand out.
however, im not going to get into some hiphop debate with you, since it seems like that's all you ever want to do. Last edited by omega_image; Dec 11, 07 at 05:47 PM. |

He appeals to a lot of underground heads. His backpackerish/conscious style doesn't make me consider him full blown mainstream.

so....since YOU listed those albums, it must mean that they did wonders for the underground scene, right? aside from the fact that i didnt list radiohead on my top 5 (i don't even listen to them), it shouldn't matter what type of music i listen to to determine my opinion on the topic at hand. you, just like many, believe that in order to "represent" you have to rep the underground hard and that any form of mainstream hiphop should automatically be outkast (get it?).... it's this type of close minded thinking that has put hiphop where it's at...... in a state of disappointment. the underground heads seriously need to get rid of the chip on their shoulder, and support hiphop as a whole, rather than their niche. the same thing goes for the mainstream artists that are monopolizing the industry and focusing more on making a buck off a ringtone rather than progressing the scene. there honestly needs to be more mainstream artists like kanye west, who develop underground artists into "semi mainstream" artists as you put it. a prime example of this is lupe. so if you ever get your head out of your ass and don't end up some broke ass has been that's too concerned with hating.....you're welcome. |
