so when was the last time they put out a banging album?

I love Wu Tang, but they hadn't made a decent album since 1997. Their last album wasn't so great, and thats just not the type of hip hop thats hot anymore. I mean shit, songs that got their own stupid dances are bangin!

Hip hop is all party and ring tone music now, i can't dance to C.R.E.A.M

^ just don't get hiphop and rap twisted.

hiphop isn't lil wayne and songs that have their own dance. that's rap.

hiphop is people under the stairs, graffiti .. etc

wayne isn't up with the greats, but i'm not sure anyone said that he was?
i don't understand how someone could never of heard of wayne tho, the hot boys were fucking huge..
the whole lil wayne name, its weak but what would you have named yourself at 14-15? ive never been a fan of artists changing their names, so it is what it is.
i do get chump vibes from him but whatever he makes hits

anyway i like this...

Cypress Hill put out Till Death Do Us Part in 2004, but it was more finger-banging then gang-banging. For some reason, Tim Armstrong's involvement in the lead (only?) single didn't help things. Still, the album went to #21 on the Billboard 200.

Re: Wayne vs. Cypress...

Everyone's right!

Yay!

Based on sales thus far, Cypress by far.

With todays CD market, Wayne likely wont be able to catch up unfortunately without 5 more platinum albums (in Canada anyway - the U.S is doable though)

But based on non-sales based "popularity", Wayne by farrrrrrrrrr

The most mainstream Cypress got was B-Real fucking Carmen Elektra

Few know or care who Sen Dog is

Wayne is way more exposed and has bigger collabo's than Cypress ever had - And will crossover further than Cypress ever has or ever will

Wale doesn't rhyme over amili....

WALE - Hey....Mr. Carter

the first release to cross the seven-figure threshold since 2005.

Quote:
How’d he do it? With an astonishing work ethic, an enlightened attitude toward Internet file-sharing, and an anything-goes policy toward cameos. Wayne showed up on countless records by other artists since his previous album, “Tha Carter II,” was released in 2005. In guest spots on tracks by Chris Brown, Jay-Z, Britney Spears and even Enrique Iglesias (!!!), he inevitably left asphalt-scalding tread marks that attested to his formidable rapping skills.

At the same time he was feeding his increasingly voracious fan base by releasing eight CDs’ worth of tracks on the Internet; many of these featured Wayne rapping over established hits and tracks by well-known artists, but with a level of inventiveness that made the originals seem tame by comparison. Many artists treat mix tapes as teasers for their commercially legitimized work, but the Wayne mixtape barrage put most rap albums released in the same period of time to shame.

Wayne, born Dwayne Carter 25 years ago in New Orleans, started recording as a teenager with the Hot Boys in the ‘90s and enjoyed early success in collaboration with Mannie Fresh, house producer for local indie powerhouse Cash Money. His records embodied the bounce style of New Orleans and established Wayne as a precocious talent with a knack for selling records (all of his albums have sold at least 500,000 copies), if not necessarily as an innovator.

All that changed in the last three years as Wayne locked himself into studios, recorded hundreds of tracks, and honed his talent. He evolved from a child star into a dreadlocked street urchin spouting increasingly intricate, at times otherworldly rhymes. His raspy bullfrog of a voice has become one of pop music’s most recognizable, embracing possibilities that suggest a cartoon, an alien, a troll who lives under a bridge, and a bong-hugging surrealist.

When “Tha Carter III” finally arrived, it was being hailed as the next hip-hop masterpiece, but it’s not nearly that. Rather, it is a more calculated version of one of Wayne’s mix tapes, with a bigger budget and higher profile producers (Kanye West, Swizz Beatz, Cool and Dre) and collaborators (Jay-Z, T-Pain, Babyface).

just because wayne abuses cocaine and puts out way too many songs for his own good doesn't make him 'good'. just makes him a cash loving slut. that guy will feature on anyones tracks as long as he gets paid.

hip-hop listeners are always on the lookout for the newest, freshest thing and if they see wayne throwing down multiple new tracks a month regardless of how borring some of waynes songs are they'll be on his dick.

Some valid points in there. He interviews really well, though. Who knew he's a Nirvana fan? You can imagine how well that went over in his hood.
