dah ha ha ha, i love the promoter battles too. because we all started as friends, then a nasty thing called 'business' had to dip it's toe into the pool.
New Venues: As mentioned, it's a long and timely process to get a new venue. One problem with being a promoters in the city for so long (like twisted) is that you've already taken the time to consider EVERYTHING! One of the main problems is: Is this venue worth it?
Generally when looking at a venue you ask yourself, how many people can fit in this room (all at once, and through out the night). then you figure out your ticket prices, and what headliners are needed to fill the place. if the costs you gather don't make you enough money to justify risking your cash to throw a rave, look for a new venue! In my mind, you gotta go through that process first before you start going to the city.
As for the colliseum... Dude, if you wanna make the rooms look a little better, control the lighting a little better. like, pipe and drape in the 'Smoke Stage' and house stage would enclose it (just like how twisted made the 4th stage in plaza). It's not a fire hazard because people can walk right through draping if an emergency happened. VISUALLY, it'd feel better and pack out nicer. trust me. Promoters never intended the 4th stage to be good anyways. look at the sound systems they always put in. they're a joke. simply there to let local dj's partake and help promote.
As for the battle between Twisted and Solid, tony said it best to me last night. As long as there are promoters, there'll always be a party scene. tho there is a lot of overlapping, both promoters cater to entirely different crowds. neither promotion company is better than the other in my opinion. and tho it's true one is not as active as it used to be, Twisted's party resume can bring in world class dj's at the drop of a hat. Solid, they have a much stronger core of street promoters at the moment. Each have their strengths and weaknesses, and i'm willing to bet you guys, some nobody promoter will come around one day, make some smart business moves and become the next 'twisted'.
And frankly, Kraig, it's smart to stick to club nights for now. the rave scene is getting stronger, but we're still in a low point. and till people figure out that you can club whenever the fuck you want... but a quality rave comes once every month or so, they're suckers to pay $35 to get into a club to see 1 dj, when they COULD BE paying $50 to see 15 dj's at 2 decked out stages all night. and Kraig, you shouldn't go around saying other people don't get your point. It puts a bad taste in their mouth about you, and it might mean that you don't get THEIR point either.
