brain chemistry and DNA can be synonymous, however just because you suffer from a mental illness does not mean that your other family members are going to suffer from it too. Although you have similar genetic make up you can have entirely different brain chemistrys...

Yeah I do :)
Mind you i dropped all of my druggy friends a few years ago, but yeah. If my friends do stupid shit Im going to call them on it and I expect the same. Thats what being a true friend is, being honest and real with each other unconditionally and having a comfort level established so that you can be. |

I don't think this is necessarily true for everyone. Some of us are happy just the way we are and don't have any urge to alter our conciousness - not that this is better or worse, just a different state of mind.

alterd states of conciousness can also include that 'buzz' someone gets when they purchase a new purse, or when they fall inlove, when someone becomes become deeply involved in a movie or other form of entertainment, a sudden perk from a cup of coffe, a nicotine rush from a cigarette, a martini at a niteclub and so on and so forth... im trying to find this article i was reading the other day written by some ph.d'd anthropology guru from the states....frustrated cause i can't find it because it explains it all perfectly. it would help to link everyone to the article rather then subject everyone to reading my clumsy posts.... i come to fnk to be dumb and post funny .gifs:D not engage in serious dialog...thats better done in a real conversation |

IT DOESNT?!?! and John, for the most part i think the general drug abusing majority of this board dont injest enough drugs in an evening to kill a small village so that they can draw stick men on cave walls or get closer to thier higher being. Quit trying to advocate for the devil buds, youre fighting a losing game. I think that injesting drugs in any context aside from medicinal purposes is terrible, but again this is something that is subjective especially in a spiritual context. |

this picture reminded me of the fact that i pulled a pack of matches from the pocket of a 2 and a half year old boy the other day. Then, on friday he was calling everyone a a Puto and biting other kids. Damn it Alejandro!

Alcohol is a prime example of why it IS true. Do you know anyone who has never imbibed alcohol or not even been curious about it? Just because you don't pursue more extreme levels doesn't mean you don't have that desire.

People don't start drinking because they think they're going to have cool visions or anything life-altering (or mind-altering) is going to happen, they start drinking because they think it's cool. I dunno, I see where you guys are trying to go with this but I just disagree - some people just don't care about this whole "altered state of conciousness" that you're talking about. Personally, I hate being under the influence of any type of substance that changes the way I feel and operate as a person. I think the "buying a new purse" comparison is a huge stretch - that's called excitement, not being high. And the feeling of love is purely subjective - I think that lust and obsession create an unhealthy buzz, whereas the feeling of "love" differs from person to person and, IMO, shouldn't be called a "buzz" or a "high".

i know that i do use drugs to avoid dealing with feelings right away. although i do deal with them eventually, i seem to press that self destruct button pretty hard before i grow up and deal. |

i would freak out normally but i've taken steps to assure my state will remain sedated for quite some time. you assume i got them from "some dude at the track" that i didn't go to the doctor (i was there for the firs time in years, TODAY! odd as it seems) and that it's not perscription. this is most certainly a perscription drug, i have used it on my horses before and it always ALWAYS comes from the vet with a perscription label on it and so on. the pills are in fact meant for humans, and on the bottle the recommended dosage is 25mg to start, which is 1/4 of the gel cap. to this day i don't understand why they wouldnt just reduce the size of the pills to 25mg and then if you need to increase dosage just TAKE MORE! duh. and there's no chance in hell my doc would perscribe it to me since it's used almost exclusively to treat MS, i believe. |
