I think the problem most people have with the little things is that they really worry too much about them. Chances are that most of the stressful things that occur mean little or nothing as far as the big picture is concerned. I can be guilty of doing the same, so I often think this to myself and it's a-okay.
If I really screw up, then I try to see it more as a learning experience than a bad thing. ...and yes, everything happens for a reason. M |

crying - when things are bad enough that i feel like crying, i'll just cry and it's pretty rough at the time, but i tend to feel better afterwards
friends - i whine and bitch to friends (like you <3), just letting it all out to someone and getting some feedback takes a load off music - nothing better then listening and singing out loud to cheesy soft rock and 80's pop working out - not only the exercise helps, but just being outside of the house. walks around the neighbourhood early in the morning really clears your head at times too. sleeping - most the time the stuff that gets me off is really dumb, so just falling asleep and giving it a rest makes things more sensible eating - jalapeno cheddar chips, ice cream, bread and alcohol :) shopping - it's temporary, and usually ends up with me feeling dumber for wasting $$ on clothes, but i love clothes and it makes me smile. the worst is when you can't find anything tho, then i just get even more depressed. :) |

Exercising on a regular basis...drop-in hip hop is my form of exercise right now, although I really would like to get myself to the gym. I'm still not really at the point where I can call my exercise schedule "regular", but it's getting there. Sweating all the stress out works wonders. :)
Music...really depending on my mood. Sometimes I listen to songs with happy/optimistic lyrics when I'm sad, but other times, I'll listen to sad slow jams. Sometimes it makes me cry, but hey, sometimes crying until you're exhausted really helps. You pass out, wake up the next morning, and start the new day fresh. My close friends...I have a few friends that I talk to on a regular basis. They REALLY understand me and are extremely patient. It totally helps in the midst of my frantic/raging emotional moments when they're there to listen. My parents...although we don't always get along, they're always there to keep me on track. Painting/writing poetry...and sometimes burning it after. It's actually quite therapeutic. ;) |

Things that keep Shawn grounded:
1) The biggest and most important thing that keeps me from doing stupid stuff is my son. My little boy is 5, in kindergarten, and is the absolute light of my life. Sure I had him a bit young but I wouldn't have it any other way. 2) Music. I can turn off the lights, close my eyes, and drift off. This helps particularly when I'm ready to kill my roomie or something else of that nature. Music soothes anger. 3)Running/Walking. I find something as simple as going for a walk can be the most soothing thing of all. Provided I'm bundled up warm and what not. |
