"sluts"
So, let me run this by the members of fnk.
I think we all have different ideas of what a 'slut' is. The question is- should they still exist in anyone's mind once we've left highschool? I really doubt I've met many people in my age group (let's say in our twenties) that aren't "promiscuous". I also haven't met many people who really care or let these kinds of choices affect their lives. As long as people are being SAFE and CAREFUL, why should these choices matter to anybody once you're all "adults" making responsible/informed decisions? |

Im still in high school and really I think the whole "slut" issue is blown way out of preportion...People dont even know a person and they go off calling them a slut. I've been on the end of that and I know Im not I may be very flirty and friendly but deffinalty not a slut, but they dont even know what there saying as long as ppl do it safe why should if matter to anyone. I mean people can do what they want with their lives, as long as their happy it deffinalty should not make a diffrence what other people say, or think. One good reason I can't wait to be out of high school!

If you can get past the morals society tries to force on us, telling us how we are supposed to act, then the word means next to nothing. If you're mature and responsible, and you aren't hurting anyone else, then who cares? But then my friend called me a slut this weekend, and I might be trying to make myself feel better.

Exactly! Christ, I've slept with less than 5 people in my lifetime and I've been called that by people who have maybe doubled or tripled my number. It makes no sense. And I really don't see the point in calling names in the first place anyways! |

the term slut is used really loosley these days....
ppl joke around calling ANYBODY who acts like a slut or even talks like a slut a slut or a whore.... i think girls should not take that term seriously anymore its over used but if you do talk or act like a slut expect to hear the word from some gurl near by pathetic as it may be... |

Interesting thread! First off anyone that calls you a slut Myra obviously is talking out of thier ass.
On the other side of things I do however like the subtle little comment that got laid to the side here. Name calling! This became a defense for many people in jr high but as we get older we realize that calling people names actually makes us look like the idiots because we lack maturity but still many people do it. When someone calls me a name and I've heard more than a few over my time it just makes me laugh now. I mean you just called me what? Ok thanks for the mental flash back to grade 7! The term slut generally refers to a persons sleeping habits but over the years has changed to try and insult people for the clothes they wear the cars they drive the personality of some people and has very little to actually do with thier sleeping arrangments. I know we are all not virgins so in the eyes of the big guy upstairs we are all sluts! |

and the issue is, why are women constantly and solely, called sluts and whores, when men are way more slut*esque than women in general. men are called whores, but only in a seemingly joking sense, why not are they treated with the same standards as women. a woman who has slept with more than, i dont kno, but we'll use 20 as an example number, of men, would probably be seen as a slut. I'm sure however, that i know many men, who have slept with 20 or more women, but no one gives them n e shit about it, in fact, they get propz, from dudes who are their friends, instead. odd isnt it?

haha yeah, I haven't been called one since highschool. I honestly thought people would know better after highschool, but I hear people saying it all the time. I don't see any reason why someone would these days, it's just so pointless. My opinion is summed up pretty well in Robyn's post too. |
