Quittin Cigs!

Ok all you people who have quit smoking cigarettes.. I just need a lil guidance here. I mean I was never a heavy heavy smoker, only did it for about a year. I'm forcing myself to quit now cold turkey forever cause I don't wanna end up one of those ugmos in 5 years who has all sorts of problems n ' shit.. Every time I eat a meal , or drive long distance , drinking beer, or stressed at work im like ahhhhhhhhh cigarettessss! Then today I'm havin a long tiring day with construction stuff and I see all these guys lighting up as they work and I can smell it .. ACK!! soo all I'm really wonderin is when do the cravings stop ? Do you ever fullly get over it? Or does it sorta creep on you here and there..

I tried quiting once before and I was sucsess full for a good 3 months, I quit cold turky and everything. I wanted a smoke every day for those 3 months and that feeling never went away. I obviously started smoking again which sucks but oh well. My mom hasn't smoked for 22 years and today told me how much she craves a smoke all the time, so I think once you've started and quit those cravings are stuck with you for life. Just be strong and move past them. It's your will power that'll keep you from smoking again.

I was kind of afraid the cravings will last.. my uncle/aunts say the same thing. :(

but I guess it's best I do it now before it gets worse.

Yea the sooner you quit the better off you are, imagine if you smoked for another year how much harder it would be for you to quit. You have to really want to quit tho, I tried to quit for my ex cause he didn't like me smoking. Didn't happen I just did it behind his back. Make sure it's really what you want or you probly wont actually quit. Good luck to you tho!

It is sincerely what I want , so I think I should be able to do it. I'm still gunna smoke a cap'n black here n' there.. at partys and stuff. It's just the cigarettes I need to get rid of..

It's weird how I like weed waaaaaaaay more than I like cigs, but quittin weed (for about half a year so I could focus on school) was absolutely nothing in comparison.

I quit for 5 months in January until I went tree planting. The key was substituting smoking for something else, I'd go eat something instead. It worked alright.
Patches suck dick, if you're not a heavy smoker they're probably going to keep you nic dependent.
If you're really serious go to your doctor and ask for Zyban. You have to take it for about a week before quitting but after that week all cigs taste like shit. It's about 125$, but it works.

Anyway, good luck.

i only smoked for a year so i totally know how u feel^^^ everyone at my work smoked and ya did it when we went out clubbing in van and everytime i drank i wanted one i just got tired of smelling like a ash can, and like calucated in one year what i spent on cigs and it was astonishing.. i could of used that for like booze or something like towards my mexi or ibiza trip fund it was a choice i just gutted it out, it was hrd but i did it and it was totally worth it in end all my suffering and sacrifice

and did u guys hear that the city of van is like propsing no smoking on any restaurant patio or public place something like that because in van there's like a 15 percentage who smoke and 85 that don't and people are getting mad that they have to go inside because they don't like to be surrounded around a cloud of smokers and smelling like them after. and bunch of other reasons.. being introduced something this or next yr!!

It´s hard... I was able to quit. From one day to another I didnt smoke any cigarettes, if I really needed to smoke I smoked some weed out of the bong...
And after a month, my body wasnt craving for nicotine anymore and now I smoke only at parties, when i am drunk, cause then it is a must...

Thats some fuckin harsh news for us the smokers, but you gotta see things on the other side.. if i were a non smoker i would not apreciate inhaling a big whiff of nasty 2nd hand while trying to enjoy a meal outdoors. fuck not at all.
I cant say i think smoking is a great idea, but personally, it works for me. I like em for now. Ive tried quitting or atleast cut back a few times earlier this year for health reasons. I find replacing the activity of smokin with some other satisfyin activity is best. Go have somethin to eat, workout, have a drink of water, or smoke a joint . Cigarette joneses aint shit, people have kicked harder substances.

Inhale enough jet fumes and you may get that too!

When you get a craving, brush your teeth. It satisfies your need to put hand-to-mouth, it irritates your gums and kills time.

Dont quit cold turkey, its the biggest dissapointment when you decide to give in that one day, and you have to have an extreme amount of will power.

Instead say if you smoked a pack of cigs a day, cut it down to only 15 for 2 weeks.
Then 10 for 2 weeks, then 5 and so on, until you reach 0.

If its hard to do it in 2 weeks then switch to 3 weeks and so on.

Goodluck dude, its not easy.

Well, I only went through a pack in say.. 5-7 days. So I wasn't that heavy of a smoker, maybe that's why it's seeming hard but not unbearable hard. If I'm workin in the shop just with my boss who doesn't smoke, its easy. Just when Im workin on a house and see all the guys doin it.. oh well. People in my family all smoked for years and years and they all quit / harsssshh regretted it, so that helps a lot too.

I think the actual nicotine addiction lasts 3 days...and then from there its self concious or something..im not sure if its 3 days...but its around that.

and props, quiting smoking is definatly hard...I can go up to 2 days without a smoke then I loose it and have to buy a pack.

goodluck though Jordan :) I find toothpicks help..whenever i want a smoke and cant have one..theres a toothpick in my mouth..haha

Hardest part is getting over the social aspect of smoking and realizing that "i'm not a smoker anymore." I still miss it a bit, especially during the summer, and i've been totally cigarette free for a little over 11 months.

The nicotine inhaler, although it burns, works really really well. I worked on that for a few months then just quit all together.

I don't smoke but I've known a lot of people trying to quit and so far chewing nicorette gum would probably be best.. it would satisfy your urge for the actual physical part of smoking by instead making you chew and satisfy your nicotine craving. Then once you are completely done smoking... slowly ween yourself off of the gum. Bad idea to chew the gum and smoke at the same time, that will just make your dependance even stronger and I've seen too many people do this. The cravings do stop once you have quit and all the mess is out of your system but that's takes time and patience. Good luck though...

I know how you feel... I'm in the process of quitting and the only 3 things I want to do is, scream, eat and go to the gym.. well at least the latter is good for me. ahhh tell me if it gets easier
