Personally, if I wanted 3 months off for WHATEVER reason, I'd just quit the job and reapply again, and make sure to leave the company on good terms so the likelihood of them rehiring me would be high, esp. if I wanted to go back to the company. 3 months IS a long time.
I didn't think 2-3mnths was much but maybe it really is? I think I left on good terms and like I mentioned they even said once you finish school and have a better idea of your availability and if a position was available you would be the first choice obviously with your experience. So well see...

you pay in to EI therefore you are entitled to it, no matter what.

I quit my job because their were too many ugly chicks and still got EI.

u do have 5+ yrs experience w/ them.

I just meant you can't leave your job on your own terms and expect to collect EI. But I don't know for sure. I've never collected EI before.

And I didn't mean fired for whatever reason. I should have been more specific and said fired under certain terms/laid off. - that was more for Harp.

agreed! this is what concerns me about ever working for someone again. I love working for myself; but that is a HUGE risk too, I would say more so actually.

Getting laid off was the best thing that never happened to me. 8 month paid vacation and I'm still getting paid benefits as technically I'm only "part-time" right now...

sounds like you'll be fine then

you cant expect to take any time off for school and still have a job though. thats asking alot.

you wont get ei because you're actually quiting not getting laid off.

my old boss was a dork!

I quite because he was such a werido (gave my 2 weeks) and my boss bagged me to stay on an extra week... I said OK but i'm taking the day after my b-day off....and when I did take that day off he called and "fired me" I never laughed so hard in my life.

Sorry to hear that.. sometimes work sucks
