the problem with so many vancouver clubs is they dont hire proper sound technicians to do anything. for example...who decided to put the extra bass bins right in front of the decks @ sonar on sunday? granted bass is omni-directional but thats still piss poor positioning. all that bass just hit a sea of dampening bodies that surrounded it.

I really like the setup at Atlantis, with the big bins positioned around the dancefloor & the hi-mids way back around the perimeter of the room. It sounds awesome, the bass can be fully rocking but you still don't have to scream at peop0le to have a conversation. I'm not sure what caused me more hearing loss on Sunday - the screeching highs of the sound system, or the people who kept coming up and FUCKING SCREAMING in my ear.

What a great way to end my birthday weekend! Thanks for the spanks! I had so much fun. AK1200 was great as per usual. I *heart* dieselboy!
Dalyn - that was fucking hilarious when you flipped that chick's skirt up! She was not impressed at all. Kam - again incoherent as fuck! we'll have that conversation sometime soon haha Matt - it was great meeting you and finally putting a face to a name. the rowdy brothers! - Dave and Ryan you guys rock! Dave, girls don't like it when you push and shove them. I was ready to bop you one right in the nose! haha j/k |

that was me! *winx* the show was fucking dope. i guess i had Andy C hyped up too much, because i was let down. First time i ever heard live vocals from the Miss, and they were tight. AK1200 and Diesle boy playing it rough and hard. its was good times, danced to until my pants stuck to me and my hair was a frizzle. *yuumm* cant you hear the beat of drum sound stuck in your ears? *buzzzzing* |

I think I'm also going to have to agree with Wood and Mirka and a few others - fantastically fun night but hampered by the poor sound and the repetitive floor-banging tracks. I thought illesha definitely put on the best set out of all of them since she let her music ebb and flow rather than play banger after banger. Definitely wanted to hear more building and easing off with slightly lighter and more funky tracks to give the heavy ones more impact, but then again, it's Andy C and Dieselboy... guess I should have expected it.
Still an absolute blast of a time tho. |

i agree
I too think Wood has said it best... yes the setup and the crowd energy were off the hook! however the sound system was like a 16 year old girl getting it good from Rocco Siffredi, def couldnt not handl;e anything, should have been properly eq'ed but whatever, and I concur that I thought POTD and Andy C were rather boring, where was the originality something special etc... but I saw a lot of people loving it all night, so they must have been doing something right!
good job ph1, the show was fun and well organised! |

what a way to top of the weekend.
after 3 days and 2 nights of camping in sub par weather, i boarded a greyhound bus and began my journey to POD. i had a bit of trouble gettin in the doors, apparently i was too drunk. the oh so friendly bouncers made me get back in the line up 3 times before giving me the go ahead. but only after they made me promise to not buy any drinks. yes, i was cut off from the bar before i even got in :| the next few hours are a lil fuzzy. but i know that i was thrown out; either for tryin to buy a drink or for sleepin at the bar. i'm not too sure which one. no matter how much i pleaded with the bouncers they weren't going to let me in. little did they know nothing was keepin me from tearin sonar apart. i waited for the bouncers to get pre-occupied with other patrons then hopped the velvet rope and made a dash for the dance floor. I MADE IT BACK IN! and i stayed in, and i danced, and i drank, and then i met ak1200! as i stumbled through the smoke room i saw a familiar lookin face sittin there. me - "hey man, you look like ak" him - *smile* me - "hey man, you ARE ak!" him - *smile & nod* "yes i am" i sat and talked with him for a while, even got a picture taken with him. (thanks peter!) i can't believe he let a drunk like me babble away with him for as long as he did. really wish i was a little more sober so i could remember the details of our convo. i do know that i told him my whole ordeal of trying to get in, then he had a good laugh. that was by far the highlight of my looong weekend. hello to all the people that chatted with me while i was stuck outside. thanks to thoes that tried to get me back in. a big fuck you to the bouncers. i know you were just doin your job, but fuck you anyways! |
