Well no more Chilli-WACK parties to countdown to so FNK is the place to be to waste the time away.

I'm only going to say something because I witnessed half of the situation and talked to those who where involved in the rest.
Reid did play speed garage. Part way through her set she turned around asking us what was wrong with the CDJ. I played on it 5-7pm and it was fine so I was a bit confused. I told her to just keep playing records the crowed is probably too drunk or high to notice. However she refused and I respect that. I then ran over and got Akeel. I assume the problem was fixed, since I asked Akeel "what was wrong?" and he replied "nothing". Next thing I knew Reid was asking us were the next DJ was as she was running out of tunes and had to play DnB. Me and a friend then ran off to grab our 'house' records. When I returned my friend was playing house and I saw Josh and Reid arguing. I was told that Josh had just shut off the CDJ. While trying to play (never got a chance to use the 'broken' one), Reid was telling me that the promoter had just threatened not to pay her because she was playing DnB. I told her not to take it personally, to talk and everything should work out. I really wish I could have helped her out and feel for her being someone who probably knows no one or anything about the promoter. This is where I have to give Kraig major props as I had a sigh of relief knowing he was their to help talk to her. I'm not going to comment on much more since I wasn't there. With all due respect Reid, I have to question why you played before getting your deposit? I also have to ask if you made any kind of contract that you could take the promoter to court? I'm new to this, but would think a DJ who plays internationaly would have this kind of prota call set up with their agent. You played your hour of speed garage and are initialed to your money agreed. As far as I know there are no rules about expected behavior for Promoters or DJ's. What questions me is how so many people have come up in Ried's defense, angry that she didn't get paid... when the majority of your local DJ's are screwed over at almost every party you attended. I've heard and been through this so many times it's like I have to except it. I also find it so unfair how ppl are assuming so much with out hearing both sides of the story or talking like it's a game of tella-phone and lets take ppl out in the name calling ring. You can make your opinions, but lets leave the facts to the ppl who where there. Personally I like to hear from both sides of the story and witnesses before making any kind of 'opinion' just to be fair. One more note, I think the only ppl who can truly confirm on behalf of Reid about the CDJ would have to be from the DJ's after her; Czech, RC Lair, or Mateo... that is if they ever used the one on the right. I'm not going to comment on what happened here, because I didn't see it. But if I had just been jumped by someone who seemed to be a friend of the DJ I was just arguing with, I wouldn't put up a penny until I knew who jumped me and wheter or not they were truly involved. I talked to Josh right after he just wanted to find the guy and sort out the situation.
As for professionalism, most problems aside, when the chump was caught, he was handed over to the police without a thorough beat down (as was deserved), thats a sign of professionalism right there. Cooller heads didn't necessaarily prevail from either side throughout the situation, and taking this shit to the internet before it can atleast be discussed with the promoter (in private) IS unproffesional however u put it. If any of you get jumped by someone right after an argument with a 3rd party, I'd love to see you get up and say "oh, that was probably an isolated incident, i'll just calm down deal with it later". Anyone who claims they would do that is a F**king liar. With all the people jumping on the bandwagon against Josh, no one has come to realize that he is the one promoter who has been putting his ass on the line, and investing a lot of his time and money to establish another large summer event for the scene here, and with the lack of respect and support he gets, I hope he starts to rethink wheter this city deserves his efforts anymore. |

I wasn't there, so i dont know what the fuck happened. All I can comment on is that when I have been drinkin at local events, Josh has been nothing but a cool guy. I am sorry to hear of all these bad vibes, and hope that the situation is resolved soon so that we can all get back to flailing and forget about this uncool shit.

The moral of the story:
When you get into throwing parties, it's supposed to be more about the party than the money you'll make.. right? How many of us have lost money by throwing a house party only to get up monday morning with a hangover and a smile on our face ready to work all week so we can afford the next one?? I know there's a difference between throwing a rave and throwing a house party, but the SPIRIT should be the same. Or am I being too naive? |

saying one- i encouraged the "fight" that resulted in no punches is an invention of your imagination. suggesting two- that i should have done something to stop the "fight" is even more absurd. just because your friend looked like a bitch in this exchange does not mean i should have stepped between two 200 lb + guys wrestling. or that i acted unprofessionally and/ or should not get paid. and three- saying that i should have not cursed their names and gotten upset after being screamed at, kicked off the tables, absolutely disrespected in front of a crowd, and then held down and dragged out by security and ultimately NOT PAID IN FULL is 150% outrageous. and finally- talking about lawsuits for slander and defamation is just tiresome as the things i say have would have to be UNTRUE in order to have a case. everything i said is 100 % verifiable. would anyone here fucking smile and agree to go to work if your computer was broken, your boss cursed you out in front of the whole office, and then docked you more than 50 % pay because he ran out of white paper so you typed the memo on yellow? to everyone on here who saw what went down and to everyone on here who understands- thank you for sticking up for me. that is priceless to me. kraig- thanks for clarifying, i was only saying you were the messenger of josh's words, i know and appreciate that you were trying to help, and ill see you in edmonton. other than that i wrote it all. many people saw what happened. there is no "private way" to take care of this, josh and kristine are not reasonable, if they were i would have had all my money when i arrivede at summer break, and i dont. of course i have not contacted them! im a DJ, not a collection agency. its over. the damage they did is done, i will have to settle for this thread as the rest of my payment. BOH and big up the good people of the vancouver scene. ill see you back here soon, to rinse it out propa, for a real promoter. |

that girl after me did not play ALL cds. i stood in the vicinity for a good 15 minutes of her set and i can assure you she played vinyl. i had to switch the needles out for her. perhaps she played cds later on the working cd player, or perhaps she does not know how to beatmatch or was too drunk that night (which i AM NOT SAYING- only suggesting to you as explanations of how ANYONE could use a broken cd player and not notice.) fact is: the pitch control on cd player was fucking broken, akeel did NOT fix it, he was LOOKING at it, not LISTENING to it, and could not hear that the pitch was not moving in accordance with the readout. the readout was tracking the fader movement, but the cd's buffer was not keeping up in accordance- it was slow and then it would catch up and jump and wildly , then stick- so beatmatching was an impossibility. it was not an issue of what channel it was on, how it was set up, or any other issue. i know how to use a CDJ 1000. i have the same cd player at home. i have the same mixer at home. i dont get fucked up when i play out, and i know how every single piece of equpitment there works. were you one of the drunk people on the stage pouring your drinks in my bag and jumping around skipping my needles? did i snap at you and tell you to stop fucking around or get off the stage? oh gee, im sooory. i wasnt trying to do a job or anything, the stage is TOTALLY the place to pogo and be sloppy drunks...what better place? certainly not the dancefloor. (rhetorical) goodnight, and good luck with those hallucinations. vancouver , i wish you the best with your scene. |

The following is for the record, i was staying out of this, but since my name was dropped here is what I encountered.
Rhia ran up to stage 1 and grabbed me saying that something was wrong with the 2nd CDJ on stage 2 while Reid was playing. I ran up there right away and asked Reid what was wrong - she had a cdj playing on the 2nd cdj in question, she grabbed the pitch slider, slid it up and down the whole length of the slider stating "it doesnt work!" While she did that, I noticed that the pitch did in fact change...i took a close look at the slider and the pitch range was set on +/- 6...the smallest range setting for the pitch on a cdj-1000. I touched the pitch button and cycled through all the ranges +/-10, +/-20, and wide...and the pitch responded accordingly. I tried to tell Reid that she just needed to adjust the pitch range setting, but she seemed pretty upset and responded with something like "i know what i'm doing, i'm a professional, etc..." at that point I just put my hands up and left. Now, i'll give Reid the benefit of the doubt that the CDJ could have malfunctioned while she was using it...but it was absolutely fine, when she moved that slider for me on +/-6 and when I cycled through right up to wide. Anyone dancing for sure heard the beats speed up to crack head speed when I popped up there for a minute. In addition, i dont need to explain my knowledge behind the decks, an amp rack or any other audio gear for that matter. I think we all know where I stand when it comes to equipment knowledge. Lets all ignore what avana is saying about the channel being wrong, thats completely incorrect and just her not understanding what I was saying about the pitch slider. Everything above is fact - i dont see the point to embellish this thread with any more bs. |

akeel..
i know you did get the pitch to move and you got it to jump all the way up when you changed the setting. and you got it to move up and down. but you did not put on the headophones and try to mix with it. had you- you would have heard how it was not responding to minute pitch corrections, rather it was either not moving, moving slowly, or jumping too fast, on whatever setting (+6. + 10, + 24, CDJ mode, Vinyl mode) it was on. and the thing was not even hooked up when i got there. nobody was using it right before me, and im sure if anyone did earlier, thats why it got shut off in the first place, its power supply and its RCA cables removed... |
