When DJs are too #&*^(* to play..
Ok, lately,
there's been a few scenarios were the performer has had one too many and had to leave the decks for acting like a tool. I'm not saying this is anything new.. we've all seen it a bunch of times, thinking back to apex adventures and island manglers.. And i'm not giving out any details about my most recent encounter with this sort of behavior... but I ask you this... Is it ok? Vote on the poll, I wanna see where you guys stand. |

maybe if it happens to them once in a while, but if they make a living out of getting too fucked up to finish their sets they should just quit life and go live in a rabbit hole.
People come to see them for music, not them getting drunk and fucked up. Its understandable if it happens occasionally, but all the time would be too much. Djs can add excitment to their sets otherways then passing out Last edited by .Promoter; Apr 23, 07 at 03:40 PM. |

There are a lot of great DJs out there who can do their thing while completely mashed.
I say get as fucked as you want as long as you can handle your shit and still mix. Come to think of it, there are a lot of scenarios where I wouldn't even care if the DJ was too drunk to mix. I guess not if I'd paid a lot of $$$ for a ticket though. |

I think its important to be comfortable in your own skin when you're playing live... If that means having a beer or two, or getting absolutely shitfaced or blasting lines, so be it... to each their own.
If sloppyness and unprofessionalism are the end result, the problem will reveal itself pretty quickly as its not just the payout on the line, but more importantly the DJ's image and reputation. |

an old saying comes to mind
"You make your bed- you sleep in it." I honestly don't think there is a certain ammount of excusable fuck-ups. Drinking or Drugging isn't the problem, as long as the performance doesn't suffer. The minute these guys start compromising their performance for their own personal reasons just shows a huge lack of professionalism. It's a competitive business out there. There really isn't a whole lot of room to be a fuck up. Sure, some big name talents can afford the occasional night of lackluster effort because they have the security of an established career. One night won't be enough to completely tarnish their rep. It's still not a good thing tho, the fans pay attention. Lesser known DJs are only sacrificing their own careers/audience by acting a douche when they're supposed to have their game faces on. The audiences aren't stupid, word will spread. Next thing you know there will be another classifieds add on FNK for the local dj who needs to get rid of their setup. |

A dj is, essentially, an entertainer. No?
So, if some wank gets too mucked-up and flails on the decks, then, HELL, YEAH!!! Let 'em crash and burn! I've seen it before, many times, and it always cracks me up! Watching a full-on flail is pure entertainment, dammit! Frosty (drops a tab in dj's juice) |

Hey man... that shit aint cool! (it sure is funny though) I got G'd at my OWN party..... If I didnt have a nice table to lean on, I would have fallen off the stage. I had to have my buddy there passing me records and telling me what to play lol. I dont know how, or remember how, but my buddies told me I pulled it off pretty well considering the circumstances. only once have i had a truly embarassing set due to my being totally trashed. and only two people really noticed anything anyways, cuz everyone there was too fucked up too lol. still :$ i felt i had to apologize for how unprofessional it was. I think we've all been there at least once, but if it happens more than once a year, then it's a problem and the dj shouldn't be getting bookings anymore.
on the other side of that statement, remember keoki? legend for being able to get proper fucked while mixing even, and he was a "superstar" (allegedly lol) |

sorry about the accidental bad karma, my fingerpad on my laptop is really touchy :( I think that it's OK for a dj to have a few drinks or whatever, esp if they get nervous, but there is no way in hell it's OK for them to be smashed and make an ass of themselves. Talk about unprofessional AND embarassing - for the DJ and the promoter(s) who hired him/her. |

When your working as a DJ, I wouldn't dare go over my limit. Maybe 1 or 2 to help loosen you up, but thats it until im off the decks.
Some say that its a skill to be able to play well when trashed. If you can handle it than fine, but its your risk. Thats why you try and arrange your birthday sets to open instead of closing off the night. |
