It varies as per what union your really with. some unions are absolute sellouts and end up fucking you over more.

In the very near future, petroleum supplies have run out. Political systems have broken down and now only brutal gangs have any of the remaining auto fuel. In exchange for mercy, the gyro captain promises to show Max where a refinery is. They arrive to see refinery under siege by a large gang who assault on motorcycles and in dune buggies and hot rods. The gang is led by the Lord Humungus (Kjell Nilsson). His ultimate weapon is a bezerker named Wez (Vernon Wells) who cannot resist getting to the final fight. The refinery is run by a gentle earnest people who get weaker every attack. Max and the gyro captain watch two teams drive out of the refinery only to cut down in quick and brutal fashion. The people under siege at the refinery plan to escape with a tanker full of gas, but they have no tractor for the trailer. Pappagallo (Michael Preston), leader of the refinery, makes a deal in which Max will provide the truck. Max loses his V8 Interceptor and his faithful dog attempting to get the truck. He only survives when rescued by the gyro captain. In a second attempt on foot, Max recovers the truck and crashes through the siege to return to the refinery. With Max in convalescence, Pappagallo plans to drive the truck and tanker trailer. Max convinces Pappagallo to let him drive, knowing it will be tough fight. The truck has been reinforced with fighting positions, a cattle plow and armor to protect the tires. When the truck leaves to refinery it is followed by an armada of attackers trying to take the fuel. The gang chips away at Max's defenses and defenders. An epic battle takes place with many cars being destroyed upon contact with the truck. Even Lord Humungus and Wez are smashed to bits in a head-on collision with the truck. The truck flips revealing that they were fighting over a load of desert sand. The refinery people escaped another route in a caravan of cars taking barrels of fuel with them. Max is left with nothing.

Sorry, but we have employment standards in Canada and British Coloumbia designated to prevent just anybody trouncing in and fucking you over. Yes, a lot of people still get fucked over and a lot of that has to do with people NOT KNOWING THEIR RIGHTS or WHAT TO DO- they can gain knowledge of these things without a union easily. A lot of people have weird ideas about their employer fucking them over considering in the world and throughout history, people could only dream to have the same standards that we have in place right now set by the government at least.

And how did we get those right and standards? By organizing and demanding them with the power of the people. The government didn't just up and say one day "hey, let's give the working class a living wage and reasonable hours." Most employers use the standards as a rough guideline anyway, and minimum wage is a slap in the face. I don't know anyone who can survive on that who doesn't live with their parentd or in a slum, least of all in Van. Sure, unions have problems and always have, but we need them just as much now as ever to keep our rights and standards going in the right direction. Otherwise, the Sam Sullivans will reek havok on our fragile lower class buttholes.

Unions are not just a force of ppl who demand to get paid more. Unions work great in some fields and dont work well at all in others.

Benifets, protection from hours being cut or added, pay based on seniority/qualifications, everyone is equal, employers stick together(brother & sister!), job security, and union fees are just a few things that unions have that other jobs dont necessarily.

However if you're in a field where you want to succeed based individually on your work and or determination to succeed over loyal time with the company, a union may not work in your favor.

I don't know about you guys, but I sure would like me some benefits. Walmart purposefully keeps employees working 38 hours, non scheduled weeks to keep their employees from receiving benefits. They're technically there, sure, but no one gets them.

BTW, no, I haven't been in a union... BUT my best friend for many years is an iron worker and we've had lengthy discussion regarding scabs and whatnot. My dad (gawd rest his soul) was also in a union at James Western Star, one which actually f*cked him over, but no more than management did. As such, he was against unions and had been all his life. I haven't had a job yet that had a union, but I would join it in a second if it came up at Tom Lee Music. Sadly, there's not enough support here. A coworker of mine sent a petition around a few months ago. So what relevance does this have to the discussion at hand? I haven't seen a person on FNK who wasn't talking out their ass in every post.

I've been a member of a union, and supervised a unionized wharehouse.

You have to be kidding me when you ask what relevance it has to the disscusion.

Nope, not kidding. Everyone here talks out their ass all day long. Plus, I don't need to be killed by or build an atomic bomb just to have an opinion about nuclear arms. This is something that effects us all.

Yes, the "I don't need to be punched in the face to know it's a bad idea" arguement. It works in certian cases.

Not so good when talking about labour ethics...

Well, your "I'm the only one who killed my parents so I'm the only one who should have an opinion on it" argument doesn't hold much water either. I am labour and I deserve ethics. I've also taken several poli-sci classes on the subject, so that, with my life experience, makes me more than qualified to post on FnK about it. I mean, not having a vagine or being a homosexual sure isn't stopping conservatives from having opinions on abortion and gay marriage. Let's just deal with the subject at hand and not our credentials, shall we? Perhaps a little audio commentary would help.
