Im sorry to bump this but what happened on the Morning Show with Kid Carson today pissed me off beyond belief.
This is what I got from the conversation at the point I tuned in. Before Christmas Benjamin got drunk and was hitting on this girl, she nicely turned him down in which he continued to presue her, again getting shot down. At this time I guess he got upset and said to her "I bet you would rather sleep with Kid Carson as hes more your type, He sleeps with a different girl every night". Kid Carson OBVIOUSLY being upset that this already well known rumour has started again, decided to not talk about it in private but on the air, this morning. According to Ben he had tried to apologize tons of times, Kid feels his apologies are not heartfelt and that he doesnt feel sorry. He also thinks Ben did this more then once (not twice but FIVE times....). Ben doesnt recall this AT ALL (as he was drunk). This went on for 40 mins. Kid basically bashing Ben on the air stating that he has all the power in the world and if he was to fire Ben he would be on a plane back to England ASAP. He also stated he didnt want to help Ben with his Work Visa papers anymore. I have never been so offended by a conversation on that show. Repeatedly Ben apologized on air and when he FINALLY stood up for himself Kid told him to "Shut up" as he was being sarcastic. Ben is an amazing guy, I have met him a few times and hes nothing but a sweetheart, and he does a lot for that show. He puts himself in akward positions and constantly gets bashed by almost every member on the morning show. I really dont know what to do. Today Kid crossed a line and I feel that a consequence is in order. More so I feel bad for Ben :( Ben is only there to make Kid feel better about himself and I think thats horrible. I fucking hate Kid Carson.... //end rant. |

^ You were there?
I was literally disgusted this morning. I cannot believe he put Ben in that situation. I almost want to write him on facebook and tell him how pissed off I am. My office has told me to be quite because ive been bitching about it all morning. Why was nothing done to stop it. Why the fuck does Kid think its ok because he gave Ben "enough" notice (he told him yesterday he was going to bring it up). Why does he think that the listeners care? Maybe he should worry less about that rumour making him look bad and more about how his actions this morning made him look like more of ass then sleeping with random girls ever would have. //Gah |

Kid Carson is a douche. I'd say that I can't believe he did that, but I can totally believe it. So happy I don't listen to him anymore!
Email Boss Chris saying exactly what you said here! Cross your fingers that enough people do the same and he gets FIRED. |

Avana, I tried to look online for an online recording or something. But I couldnt come up with anything.
Im assuming noone else caught this and my post reflects A LOT of what happened but not all of it. It was way worse. You could seriously feel how uncomfortable Ben felt through the radio. |

OK - I usually love the beat morning show but this morning I was totally disgusted - I tried to call in and voice my displeasure but the line was steadily busy for the full 40 minutes they were acting like children
As for the whole Kid Carson firing Ben for this discussion, it's not legal. Kid could sue him for slander if he really wanted to, but since it happened outside of the workplace and was not about a work-related topic, Kid has no legal grounds for termination. |

He said on-air this morning that he "had to decide whether or not to fire Ben", so, I take it that he does have the authority...

I was horrified to hear the conversation these people had this morning.
They kept saying 'we talk about our lives on here, it's either all or nothing' I vote for nothing. I don't care what Nira and Amy talk to their husbands about. I don't care about how Kid and Ben got a ticket for no seatbelt on the way to his driving test. I just want some music on my way to work with some traffic and weather. I don't mind the biz or Nira's health tip. I don't want all their useless talk they call a morning show. |

^ It sounded pretty serious on the show. Since it's technically "his" show, I would imagine he'd have some pull in the sense that if he didn't want the dude who answers the phones to work there anymore, he'd probably get his way.
Anyhow, my letter to boss Chris: Hi Chris, After listening to the Kid Carson show this morning from 8-8:30, I felt compelled to write in and express my displeasure regarding the topic that was discussed live on-air. As I'm absolutely sure you are already aware, Kid and Benjamin clearly had a personal dispute to deal with, and instead of reconciling off-air, Kid decided that it would be a good idea to address the issue on-air. While I understand that Kid was clearly frustrated and had felt betrayed by someone he considered a friend, that does not negate the fact that he chose to exercise absolutely no type of professional discretion in bringing the issue up in a way that was completely unacceptable. What frustrated me more was when several listeners called in to express their displeasure with the situation, Kid did not acknowledge that he should not have brought the issue up on air. Rather, he simply tried to justify it by saying that he, Nira, Amy and Ben all discuss personal issues on-air. There is a line - he should know where it is and not to cross it. Kid also mentioned that he now has to "decide if he wants to fire Ben or not" and if he does Ben's Visa will be revoked and he will no longer be permitted to reside in Canada. However, what Kid clearly does not realize is that since this incident happened outside of the workplace and did not include any work-specific information, it is absolutely illegal and against the BC Labour Act for Ben's employment to be terminated based on the incident. In addition, Kid does not have any specific proof (ie. e-mails, notes, tape recorded conversations) that this ever even happened - he is passing judgment purely on hearsay. Should Ben be illegally fired for this incident, I imagine there would be some rather severe consequences to the Beat, especially since so many people are now aware of the situation. I'm thoroughly disappointed in Kid for even considering that this should be brought up on air. I've been a loyal Beat listener since day one, and never once have I been so appalled by the actions of a radio personality that I actually considered no longer listening to their show, or the station in general. I sincerely hope that Kid understands the severity of his actions and is prepared for the repercussions. I hope he issues a prompt, sincere apology to his loyal listeners. After all, it's clear that's what he thinks should be done when one offends another. |

I'd say the firing would more then likely fall under the program director on this one. There could be a request for placing the individual on a different show, but on-air talent generally can't fire someone. They're generally not bright enough to deal with serious issues like that. |

^ Right, but what I'm saying is maybe Chris left it up to Kid, which is why he was saying he needed to decide. Either way, you'd think that the program director would know the labour laws, or at least look into them before allowing someone like Kid to go on the air and talk shit about firing someone for something completely unrelated to work.

my point is that he's a douche for saying that, and an even bigger douche because he doesn't even know that the law doesn't permit it! |

^ I have a hard time believing that any of their superiors knew it was going on before it was too late. Although, if I were boss Chris I would have told them to stop immediately the second I heard what was going on
So, Chris, was it BAD in the studio afterward? Please tell me he got a good behind-closed-doors talking to! |
