You completely missed my original point. Yeah I made a reference about mass suckage and learning how to spin but overall I was trying to point out that their gimmick is lame. You keep going on about showmanship and you even go so far as to compare a half-naked DJ chick to GWAR. Do you really need me to point out the differences there Ryan? GWAR puts on an entertaining show. Are you saying that a chick who just spends her entire set with her shirt off is 'showmanship'? I mean maybe if she fucking pole-smoked while she was up there you could say that there was a show aspect to it. I mean what do DJ's do to entertain anyways? Pump their fists a bit, yell at the crowd.... I CAN TOTALLY SEE HOW TAKING OFF YOUR CLOTHES ADDS TO THE OVERALL SHOW! |

i don't think it's necessarily cool how jungle carries this "tough" rep with guns, camo and other war propaganda. some theories link this to desensitizing us to violence and war. i love tanks and machine guns too... they're just freaking cool. BUT it sorta seems like another gimmick adding to the junglist image as opposed to the music... just something to ponder the next time another fight breaks out at a dnb event... |

I dont think its fair to asume these 'pron dj's' suck before you have even heard them. Even if you did go see them im sure you woudlnt give them a chance either and focuse on counting mistakes rather than than trying to enjoy it.
Keep in mind there was another post going off about how anyone can learn to beat mach and dj... hence why so many dj's are producing as well to get a step ahead. This is what these 'pron dj's' are doing as well or any other dj out there that turns dj'ing into a more visual entertainment... its a step ahead. On an other note props to you Bri for holding your ground! I remeber having to think really hard when that Dove guy called us offering to tour with play boy and had to be willing to do anything your manager request!?! LOL YEAH RIGHT They glamorise it so much and make you think that you have finally made your break. That LA guy made me re read Colleen Shannon's Q&As about 10 times trying to convince me that its ok to pose nude. And he claims he can me to make $75,000 a year, travel, and play top venues with top dj's. I asked a bunch of my male dj friends what they thought... who said they would drop their cloths in a second for a contract like that. However when I thought about it... it seemed too easy and just not me. Going that way might get you waht you dreamed of, but not alot of respect. Last edited by Ree Fresh; Nov 07, 05 at 11:30 PM. |

$1500 to drop my nuts on stage? in a heartbeat. I could see a nude/topless dj playing at a larger venue in a heartbeat. Half the folk in a larger crowd don't know who's playing or what music they're listening to more then half the time anyway. I wouldn't mind getting drunk, hitting up a show, watch some titties then flail to some dnb or jungle. You can't bust out that shit at a strip joint. And besides, when you're at a larger show there's already whorey undercland skanks aplenty. What magic line gets crossed in an environment where pills and whores are already friendly? |

And the ignorant award goes too...

Do some resurch reading here --> http://www.propertalent.co.uk/default.asp And to think shes done all that with out ever having to pose nude, dj topless, or promoter herself as the worlds sexyest dj (that I know of) Instead Charissa has made it by working hard for over 15 years and has alot of talent, experince and skill to show off. Reason why shes still booked internationaly, playing at huge dj events like the WMC, and still asked to collaberate wtih other top DJ's. Just because shes not your number one means she sucks. ps: Personaly im so empressed I might have to name my first daughter Charissa :D Last edited by Ree Fresh; Nov 08, 05 at 02:57 PM. |

Wow. Who knows. If the nude pics were tasteful and made you look beautiful - as playboy usually always does then it doesn't mean you are a slut, have no talent or are selling out (entirely).
When I was younger I used to think it was totally wrong, now I am a little less against it - although I'm STILL not saying I would do it!! But hey, if ya got it, don't feel bad about flaunting it, that's for sure - especially if you really are smart, talented and can prove it. I'm not suggesting this sort of thing is for you girls (Bri and Rhia) and that there aren't dangers involved in committing to contracts of these sort. It does seem to easy but then again dreams also do come true. I'm divided - ? And the bottom line - for most all - and especially those reps and promoters is $$$$$$$$$. If I was offerred, I probably wouldn't either cuz to be honest, I'd miss my boyfriend! |

Seeing someone like Tamara Sky make it like that with only 4 months of DJ'ing is bloody fishy if you ask me. It doesnt bother me when you have DJ's like porcha, mia, or Tatiana... who have a fair enough skill to DJ that it doesnt bother me so much if they choose to express and sell them selfs that way.
Yet when you have female dj's who try to pull the sex card with out the hard earned work and drive... its starts to give people the idea that any hot DJ must only be there because of their looks. Which unfortently brings less respect and chance to other female DJs. Hence martys stupid remark. |

Oh well, why do girls pose in playboy? for fame and money?
Sex Sells, if you got it, use it. If you're not comfortable with it, step aside the girl beside you is. It's unfortunate but it's how the world goes. But Bri, next time she emails you back. tell her to cram it! |

as for dj rap...
Quote:
imho...dj rap was awesome 5-10 FRIGGING YEARS AGO! she hasn't released a drum and bass tune of note, or done anything new for about that long. i think her last original tune "bad girl" came out in '97. she just continues to tour on past accomplishments, aided by the fact that she's a relatively cheap booking as she's been living in LA for something like 10 years but still bills herself as from the UK. her label doesn't release tunes anymore other than having other producers do remixes of her old tunes. even aphrodite has far more to say about drum and bass today, at least he still puts out original compositions and has artists on his label who release material that is original. simply put, DJ Rap is no longer relevant to drum and bass as it stands today, and if she gave it up there would be more room for some talented, original, creative and more importantly productive act to fill the gap. that and the last time i heard her play she had approximately two tunes in her bag that weren't on wide commercial release. |

btw - She's been working on some new tunes lately. She's been touring for the past while and in the midst of packing and moving. True she's not pumpin or pumping out the dnb like she used to, but she's doin her thing and imho is still good at it. Just thought I'd share.. :) And no matter what Aphrodite will probably always be putting out dnb, whether it's often or not. lol |
