Calibre has been here (awesome show), and if people don't know the Friction enough to support that show then there is no way that the 'average' dnb fan will know who Mutt or Gremlinz is. That's the biggest problem with deciding who to book. Majority of the "dancefloor" only know the biggest hype names, and definitely wouldn't have a clue who 23DJ is. The only time people mention those names is when they are dj's, or are definitely not an 'average' fan.

Damn... that isn't a good sign at all.

Surely if Zinc was booked with him it'd draw a crowd? Maybe Hype? I saw him destroy a 3 Deck set with MC what's-his-face Daddy whatever... a few months back. One of the better shows at The Orange Room I've been to. And I can't say I'm a huge wobble fan either but he put on a good show.

this is why i think that the method of promoting has to change. i think you have to build the party, not the headliner. don't sell the name, sell the party. how is d'n'b going to evolve here if promoters depend on what is essentially branding done by labels and outside DJs? there's no reason why you can't pack a party and only have local/unknown DJs. that's what we did for the false-o-ween show (and all of our shows). people where there because they knew it was going to be a great party, not because we had a big name on the bill. you may think it's easy to get 400+ people for a weekend d'n'b show but almost none of the people there are normal 'headz. and it wasn't a normal d'n'b show. i don't know where the "SHAH crowd" came from but they seem to be very different from the usual d'n'b crowd. as i'm sure you know, throwing any kind of party in this city isn't easy.

again, mid week shows/headliners = the name of the headliner being the draw.
Throwing a "party" can only be done on the weekend, and if you do a show on the weekend when the headliners cost twice as much - you HAVE to make it the party not the dj name or you lose everything.

hmm...it's weird to read this thread. all i remember are a few smashing automatic nights and tons of fun. everything was perfect! we get some good acts here - switzerland's drum and bass events - but sometimes i miss the vancity vibe. uhm, yeah. thanks for reading. that is all.
