Les Claypool is a fucking God. And while he is the most Devine of the group, the rest of 'em are every fucking bit as talented (though not really godly).
I like their cover of Metallica's The Thing That Should Not Be (also from the Rhinoplasty album). Metallica is a five-piece band. Primus is a three-piece band. The Primus version is sooooo much better. My favourite album I think is their latest one, Antipop. The Final Voyage Of The Liquid Sky, Electric Uncle Sam, Mama Didn't Raise No Fools.... fuck. Frizzle Fry is a classic as is Sailing the Seas of Cheese. But really, everything Claypool touches is fucking gold. GODDAMNIT! Now I need to wait 2.3 hours before I can get back home and listen to more Primus. See what you've done? |

I love jazz, but more so blues..I play blues...blues is where the heart is at for me I guess. But the thing is, when im playing it on the piano, or when im playing anything on the piano...I play all the music by ear. I cant think when I play it, because when I start to focus on the majors and minors and all the little things I consider technical and so many people find effortless ...i cant play. When i listen to a song, I try and hear the soul and the feeling, because all my life music theory never made sense to me. I like jazz, but i also like that experimental craziness played on Cjsf at 3 in the morning. Just because artists may be in the top 40, id be happy for them anyways even if i cant stand some of their music, because atleast it means that someone somwhere is connecting with it, even if it might be Creed (ok, might be pushing it a little there). But atleast they are playing music and not becoming politicians...and music reaches people. My whole life is consumed with hours of obsessive searching for musical rareties, and all nighter indie radio listening....the shows where they never tell you the artist, and your sitting there like a mad anxious rabbit awaiting the song name, so you scribble down the lyrics..in hopes that a magical google search, will reveal the one track. I seek out shows, and little coffee free acoustic open mic's, and attempt to blend upon the jellyfish like bobbing heads of the converse elite every now and then. We're all snobs in our own little way, i mean...even with me and relationships....haha...you gotta like something along the same musical lines as i do, or have a seperate shelf for your albums...or your gone kind of thing....annyways, through all of that it's still music, and there are even good shitty bands...when their live...wouldn't you rather have the option of listening to top 40, then not having the freedom to listen to music at all? just something to think about. |

man...I dropped rock music back in 1999, all my fave bands either broke up or turned wack. Nirvana - Their Material got old, Soundgarden - Split up, Stone Temple Pilots - Split up, Rage Against the Machine - Split up, and Metallica - Turned into Hard Rock. So sad...So I found DnB, my saviour.

Grunge is so dead these days. Ever since all the Nickelback/Creed clones grunge has been nothing but reminiscing for Cobain and style-biting Vedder [sp?]. |

Been feeling The academy is... checked out the faint. Really cool production but I dont really like their shit besides phonecall; thats an amazing track imo. been meaning to check out The Get Up Kids... Bloc party is still by far the most impressive to me. If anyone has any reccomendations of bands that sound similar let me know. |

So surprised no one mentioned The Arcade Fire...
There's always the Shins (two of their best songs on the Garden State soundtrack, along with other dope artists) Oh Inverted World is the better of their CDs IMO For kinda more rock, I've been circulating Autolux and Razorlight in my playlists If you like M83 and Mogwai, you'll also love Godspeed you Black Emperor and Explosions in the Sky.... oldie but always good, Omni Trio makes instrumental dnb (fave song- angels and shadow project/higher ground) Anyone under the Arts and Craft label is worth a listen to (The Stars, Feist, apostles of hustle). \ |

I name checked Arcade Fire in my thread that was similar to this one (and seems to have disappeared off the face of the site).
Didn't like Autolux, so there. I actually appreciate not liking some of these bands, so that I don't feel like I'm just jumping on every bandwagon that rolls by. |

^yeah for sure, Im liking their latest. On the whole Mogwai, Explosions in the sky thing there's also a band called Tortoise and a band called Four Tet with a more electronic feel, their both amazing.
I found a very chill acoustic take on Outkast a few weeks ago by an Australian band. (if you scroll down just a little you'll find it)http://www.theblackmarketrhythmco.com/audio.htm |
