so really, the only good trance in town is organix at the moment.. but, sometimes you'd rather enter a club and chill out to a different style.
Hey Marty

Union is still doing events at Cyber (Scott Bond July 1) and the owner has been asking me to play there almost every weekend since the Union local night officially ended. I don't bother posting much on this forum due to the lack of interest.

I also have a show this weekend @ Cyber with a kick ass DJ from the UK, if you want to come check it out send me a PM/email and I will put you on the list.

AS FOR THIS THREAD...

Pretty much sums up everything that's wrong with the scene in Vancouver IMO.

90% of the people don't know what they're talking about. The amount of terrible DJs playing out these days boggles the mind.. stop trying so fucking hard already. AHhhhhhhh I don't even know what to say anymore :p

Carry on :D

The kid tried something that many 15 year olds do

He knows a term (1234,2234) and tried using it to make himself look like he knows what hes talking about

When he got called out on it he said he was joking

I used to do this when I was 7 years old

There is no better genre. There is no easier, or harder to spin(with the exception of turntablism). Each genre is mixed differently. With house, it's more about blending the tracks.... With Trance, it's more about Timing, and longer mixes. I've been taught when mixing, to never let the bassline run out, 32 beats late can fuck up the mix.
I Play trance. I've played a bit of house, breaks and dnb. I found mixing dnb was almost the same as hard house, it's just a different beat. Personally, I have the most trouble with house.
It doesn't matter which genre you prefer. There is good music and bad in all genres. And there are good djs, and shitty djs. Nobody is wrong for what music they prefer. I don't see why soo many people get their paties in a knot about it, all the time.

Ya man Im the same!! I listen to trance, I listen to some house.....I listen to anything thats good and Ill listen to any DJ that throws down a good set! I think that just cause someone says like Oh I play house or I play trance or whatever........doesnt mean you should criticize em for it! Give em a listen who knows they might blow you away! :)

I just went to Organix for the first time tonight. It was okay. The venue is great, dope atmosphere, but pretty basic tunes. I was into it for the first hour but after a while I remembered why I hate funky house. Why are all club nights lame? Why can't DJs just say "fuck the dance floor" and play what they want, something not streamlined to bog-standard mass appeal? PUT ON THAT JUNO REACTOR RECORD AND WALK AWAY, MUTHA FUCKA!!!

Yeah man, I know what you mean with the whole "why can't DJs just play what they want..."

It's because they can't afford to lose the crowd - so that's why they restrict themselves and suck up to the crowd and also the owner of the club so that he will book them again in the future. It's all politics these days man... there's not much free will left as it has all been restricted to us by the majority of the narrow-minded people that live all around us.

I'm spinning at a local club here in two weeks - do you think I'm allowed to play what *I, DJ FireWire* want to play? Fuck no. The owner even told me WHAT I have to play, which sorta pissed me off but if I want the club playing experience then there's nothing I can do about that.

I just say keep on doing what others require of you for a few years of your career and then become your own boss. That way you will be able to do whatever you want and play whatever you want (which in turn will also enable YOU to tell others what to play, muahaha).

Yes, I realize that, hence why I never said I was listening to funky house at Organix. I merely remembered why I hate funky house while listening to the most boring psy-trance I've ever heard.

I don't really know the difference anymore because some of the stuff I play falls in either category. Try classifying Max Graham for example. Is it Trance or is it House? I call it Trouse.

or take artists like Thomas Penton, Antix, and Viscid.....lots of their tracks are in the same pocket as house, but some of their stuff is super trancey, I say hurray for uber trouse.

^ Oh ya totally

the dynamics of some trance out there, mechanically is just sheer nuts...*ah hem* infected mushroom, *ah hem* Electric Universe *ah hem* and Showtek, just to name some.... :y:

But on the other hand as well, there are some very talented house producers out there too, ie: Jesse Garcia, Tom Novy, Simon & Shaker, just to name a few.

There's always something for everybody. :)
