I realise there was very little that could be done to avoid this, but at the same time, me and 4 friends put down a total of 225$ (plus 10 other people i know who bought tickets) on tickets to go a party that isnt going to go off now. As far as i have heard we will not only be getting none of that back,

dave has a reputation of being one of the most trustworthy and reliable promoters in vancouver (if even bc and washington state altogether). i have complete faith in him, as well as everyone else here who has attended his parties over the years. while i do not know the exact details of how compensation will be made, rest assured it will be done.

but we also now have a bunch of caps we aren't going to do.

you're soooo going to do them. :) numerous shows have popped up to fill the void tonight. go to one of them and experience what the non-mainstream in vancouver is like.

either that or do them in the comfort of your own home. mdma is an absolutely wonderful time when you can control your environment. the music, the temperature, drinking some brews, blankets, your favourite movies... anything you have ever wanted to do while high, you can do! i'd much reccommend it, as would everyone else who's ever done mdma and isn't a clubber nor a raver.

I think things like this may be a part of the reason why there is a growing lack of support for the scene. I know this may well discourage a bunch of my friends from going to any future parties...

while you're correct in saying that this will definately discourage some new faces from plunging headlong into raverdom, the growing lack of support probably can be attributed to the fad wearing off. raving isn't as cool as it once was in vancouver (most recently in 99/00).

As for the plaza parties, I've been to 2 and i'm sick of em already, people are dumbasses who should support bigger and better things like this..
Pce out
you've got a good mind. you should definately try and hit up some of the smaller shows that've popped up tonight. bring your friends along too. they'll promptly realize how neat things can be.

i think you just proved his point. the asian demographic is essential to the success of plaza and riverside parties. a few years back it was an integral part of the outdoor parties too, but as things have died down a bit, the ones left have retreated back to the venues familiar and close-to-home. they also don't seem to like too much variety in music, which is why such boring line-ups have been huge draws over the years. loyalty to promoters is also quite important, and many won't attend parties that they feel have not been properly branded.

it seems that in this case, none of the requirements were met. while agro might be a huge name, it's definately not as big as twisted's or uhoh's. nor does it have an asian crowd associated with it, which may have been a factor. also, the lineup was absolutely amazing, yet it might have been too diverse for the demographic's taste. usually these factors can be put ignored, and the event attened anyways if its in the plaza or riverside, but it seems that in this case, being in popkum might have been the clincher*.

this just being a theory, though. one that really couldn't have been predicted ahead of time. who would have thought that such quality would have been so ill-recieved?

* if you want an example of how important the plaza and riverside are to the asian demo's rave experience, go hang out on the asianavenue.com boards for a bit. the venue seems to far outshadow the event.

You can Call the ticket outlets and ask how well tickets moved in comparison to other parties, ask Personal ticket sellers from this board, they'll all tell you the same thing

To tell you the truth I understand why you think I would be lying, its baffling and unbelievable, especially looking at how many people on this board and other boards that were going

It makes me wonder how things would've went if it went of and frustrates me cause if we only got about 150 more presales (which is still extremely low and devestating) the party acually could've happened (lower scale of course)

Even a lower scale party would've pissed alot of people off who would look around and see alot of the headliners missing and the production cut in half

We acually want to thank everyone for being so supportive and understanding

We thought that everyone was going to be very pissed off at us.
Understandably some people are but alot aren't and it makes life a little bit easier......Its tough enough as it is sitting at home instead of setting up for a party

and what would be the point of lying? If I got 1000's of sales I could run away with all the money but then rumours would fly from store workers and sellers and there would be alot more people pissed..There are none of those rumours

Believe me its alot easier to throw the party than to cancel...alot less stress to

apex will be fine as long as the weather holds, no one has a problem with a $10 ticket, and all the 16 year old kids who can't afford to spend $50 on a party will go.....

Who's lying? I really should start a thread for everyone who should have supported these guys and bought a ticket, but didn't.

Even with their efforts we as members were part of the problem, Did I buy a ticket? No I was going to do that at the door, with the rest of the city. The last few events that I have promoted advance tix sales were always in a scarey place. With some of the shows we did profit, some we lost money on. An event the size of rhythm nation can not survive with out advance sales. So they had to cancel it..... our bad and I very sorry but I can't say much for myself in this topic.

I bought a damn ticket

The biggest load of shit is the line "the rAvAh cOmmUNiTy didnt support our rAvE by buying presale tickets"
I mean really what a stupid thing to say when the tickets are 50 bucks a peice.

but the real piss off is when I find out that I paid 50 bucks for my ticket, and the flyer clearly says the first 500 are 35 bucks.. then the rave gets cancelled because they couldnt even sell 300? I dont like that kind of shit.

So now what happends for people with RN tickets? I could care less for make up parties or discounts at other parties, but I understand what has happend, sorry to all the production companies involved. But I think you should at least give back the omeny to the people who did buy pre-sales. After all they are the ones who did support you.

What else could you ask for???
I know I speak on behalf of Azim and the rest of the Twisted crew when I say that we are truly sorry to not see this show pull through. I remember sitting in a meeting last week with Azim, Salim, Rick and a few others and we were all scratching our heads as to why the heck things didn't work... It comes down to one thing, and one thing alone... It's our scene. PERIOD.

The promotion for this show was excellent... The formula itself was very good but unfortunately, Vancouver is either not ready for it or just doesn't understand it! -- It's funny that a lot of people ask for shows like this, someone like Dave and crew respond, and this is what they get back in return? Interesting...

This show being cancelled has really raised a lot of concerns in the scene across the board. I know for a fact that ALL of us at Twisted and Swing Kids are very carefully watching Summerlove and talking/meeting daily about it.

Anyway, props Dave to you and your crew for a job very well done. I look forward to seeing what you have up your sleeve for the next one!

Cheers.

wow you do have a really good point there.. didn't think of that one. but the point of the cancellation is the shortage of money...and the only income they get from it all are from ticket sales. an extra 10-15 dollars per ticket goes a long way. for rhythm nation as a seller i thought ticket prices went up by date as well..but if thats what you read from the flyer.. way to be observant.

boomtown sold 10 tickets?!...you must be joking me. wow.

As part of the Seattle Scene and a Promoter here, I can tell you that, Seattle at this point is not much better than Vancouver. Over all we also are suffering from low turnouts. Most of the parties here have gone to nitch type of events, the one/two headliner for $15 (specific genra, a jungle show, or a hard house show, etc), rather than doing the huge lineup which is $35-40 at the door. The truth is even USC, didn't exactlly make too much money on thier last party here either, and considering their investment of close to probablly close to a $100,000-$150,000, even if they made a few bucks, you would expect a nice return on that type of investment. I think honestly the main reason why massives are even breaking even down here, is because there has only been like 2 so far this year, and they are more novelty than anything else. I just hope the scene can unite, rather than divide even further than it already has.

Sorry you guys had to cancel the party.
