Society's effect on human rationale, would be my best guess. Women aren't as persuaded as men to become scientists, engineers, computer technicians, etc., so are less likely to pursue such a career. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen, but because of the gender imbalance it also involves a lot of extra work on the side of the females, just to be taken seriously in the field. A lot of traditional families stress the importance of the woman in the household and as a result a significant number of women are primed from birth for a household-based life. Not saying this is a Good Thing, but it does explain it.

That being said, You see a lot more women considered "geniuses" within the artistic field. Probably mainly because within traditional values, art is rarely considered a viable income or steady work. So most artists from the get-go are discouraged from their profession of choice regardless of gender.

How I see it at least.

Dont you think that there was a huge paradigm shift at the end of the age of the atomic family?I do not beleive that the same values exist today in modern western society as they did lets say 30-40 years ago.I dont think it has much to do with persuading as it does conditioning.

From experience in my field, I am treated differently by men and sometimes men won't even want to deal with me because I have a vagina and am somehow less capable and less intelligent then someone with a penis. That really fucking pisses me off.

You obviously don't spend much time in southern united states or in eastern asia.

I do think there has been a large amount of change in the last 30-40 years, but I don't think that it's completely revamped how people think. But are you saying that sexism in job discrimination has ended? I wouldn't say it has, simply because there's a whole number of women that get paid less than men for the same job.

I think you confused. The politically correct attitude has changed. Everyone will say that women can do whatever they want and blah blah blah. But the actual attitude hasn't actually changed as much as you'd think. Also keep in mind Vancouver is a very very liberal part of the world.

All fields are different. Other then on-air personalities, I've seen very little sexism in my field. Hell my boss is a woman. But I'm interested in hearing what field you work in that has created such a hostile working environment.

From what I've read, geniuses typically don't care too much about what is socially acceptable or not (almost to the point of autism, like the recent Fields Medal winner, Grigori Perelman), and usually have a single-minded focus on whatever it is that interests them.
