i think it's pretty easy to sit back and say someone should have stopped him, but until you're actually in that situation (i.e. sitting in a bus, likely sleeping or zoning out in the middle of the night and then shocked by a scream and watching a large man repeatedly stab a kid with a giant hunting knife), I don't think it's really fair to try to pass judgment.

Granted most Greyhounds dont do international travel (US/Canada) but seriously. A Rambo knife? Brought onto a buss with 30 some odd other innocent individuals?

Not only did he kill a man, but he physcologically fucked up a lot of people. Those poor kids will never lead a normal life after seeing something as horrific as that.

Sure, most children are desensitized nowadays by everyday television and movies but to see that in real life....I couldnt personally imagine.

well if hes mentally ill then he shouldn't be in jail..........I'm not condoning it at all I'm just saying, what good would a mentally ill person in prison do? If this was the case he wouldn't have the capability of knowing what he had done and jail wouldn't even give him an understanding of what he did was wrong, he probably wouldn't even realize it was supposed to be a punishment....

if he's mentally ill and is being socially detrimental, he needs to be locked up. If not a prison then an asylum.

Say what you want about "These people need help," what the public needs FIRST is for people without the capacity for rational thought or ability to discern between right and wrong to not be allowed on the streets.

Remember that incarceration is about protection of the public from dangerous elements moreso than it is about rehabilitation.

He'll be put in an institution for the criminally insane. I used to date a girl who worked there. She had some crazy anecdotes that were pretty much on par with this story.

And of course you're right Dave. Someone who will do something of this nature completely out of the blue is pretty much the most dangerous kind of human being there is. He can't be allowed in normal society again.

If he was THAT mentally ill, where he didn't understand the difference between sick and gross violence and the whole idea of being "punished" for his actions, there's a very good chance he'd be in some sort of institution/group home anyway, if not already being cared for by a family member. On the slim chance that he was being cared for by someone who knew of his violent condition, then I am pretty sure someone would have reported a crazy armed and dangerous man to the authorities.

I hear what you're saying though, and I do feel bad for some people in the world.

It's just really unfortunate that someone had to die so violently.
