When it comes to selling... what price points make a positive difference?

for example, if you're trying to sell something for around 20 bucks... what is the most effective price?

19.95 ? 19.99? 19.45 ? what's the magic number?

Read up on the Schindler & Kiberian study for their finds on psychological pricing. Although it's a pretty controversial theory, recent finds have shown that it works repeatedly regardless of the market demographic it's catering to.

yep.

furthermore, wal-mart and a few other mass retailers have had success with odd ball pricing, like $6.37. It makes the consumer think wal-mart has indeed dropped prices to as absolutely as low as possible, otherwise why wouldn't they price it at 6.99 or something.

I think walmart plays on such a whole different level, that they probably have a certain percentage they add on top of whatever price they get it for.... or some other weird reason for that...

because when you're as big as walmart, and you shave a couple cents off item.. it could be the difference i hundreds of thousands of dollars in profit or more..

no point in even trying to understand walmarts pricing etc.. they are just way too nuts

It's for a dvd.. and it's going to be sold online..

niche: think extreme footage... all exclusive.. like insane stunts... crazy fights... brawls... gang fights.. police chases.. all never seen before footage

I have nothing to do with the dvd production... i just know the guy who has the rights to all the content... and he asked me how the best way to monetize it would be..

I was thinking since it would be hard to find a distributor for that kind of footage, his best bet would be do sell it online, and have an affiliate program... so sites like break.com filecabi.net etc would throw links up to promote it...

think 19.99 is too high for a dvd? or should it be more around 14 dollars?

Not necessarily.. It's not like it's going to be such a huge hit that it's going to be all over torrent sites and download sites... it's a pretty niched dvd...
