Yeah. I don't think it should matter if they work at a spa or a clinic. They're RMTs. They're professionals. They either have a three year diploma, or a four year Bachelor of Science in Massage Therapy. Their regulatory body is the College of Massage Therapists of British Columbia

I wouldn't be surprised if there's something written in their code of ethics about not accepting tips or gifts from clients. I know that The College of Registered Nurses of BC definitely has something written in our code of ethics about not accepting money or gifts from patients.

It's the environment and the circumstance. I'm trained as a professional cook. If I work at a restaurant, it's cool to be tipped. If I work in a hospital or nursing home, it's kind of weird.

Yeah. Because if I was going to get a massage, I'd need them to be RMTs so I could get 80% of the cost of the massage back through work benefits. And most places will list the their RMTs as "soandso, RMT"

Your right..it's not professional..but imagine spending 3 hours with an estetician and then not tipping because it was a gift. If you paid with a gift certificate while dining out..you would still tip right? Some people are just cheap..they can be totally happy with their service and not leave a tip just for the simple reason that they dont have too..

Im not a service provider and don't rely on tips..but it just shocks me when people dont tip. It's all karma. I tip everywhere.. that has a tip option/jar. Even if it's $.75 at starbucks..that makes people feel appreciated =)

Granted, but I've found the extra service most people expect is never proportionate to the tip they leave.

But people should never expect a tip, I worked with a bartender who would actually have people thrown out for not tipping enough. Once she threw out someone who tipped her 30% but she didn't see it.

I think it is entirely inappropriate. I had been seeing an RMT for my fucked up back, whenever it came to pay she would always ask, "do you need change?" I just assumed she was bad at math or it was just something she said, never even thought she was asking for a tip. I sent my gf to her and she asked her the same thing, my gf being quicker then I and a server, caught on right away and wasn't sure what to say, so she replied, "no" and the RMT kept her $10.

Neither of us were there for pleasure. We were in a car accident and I was looking at this lady the way I would any other medical professional.

I think in a Spa setting, no matter the qualification or lack there of it is appropriate and probably expected that you tip.
