Are you supposed to tip the masseuse? Two girlfriends and I are doing a spa trip this weekend and we aren't sure if we should tip or not.

is it a RMT? or just a regular massuse? if its an RMT then i wouldnt tip.. that would be like tipping your doctor... if its a regular massuse then i would tip 15-20% ...i think it also depends on if your in a spa setting.. then yes i would tip......i do that for any service oriented service (im bias though since i work in a resturant) so really its up to you

I don't know the answer to that. Like people have said, tipping an RMT is like tipping your physician or nurse. I think It's weird. But at the same time, spas like Ethos and Utopia employ RMTs. If you're supposed to tip the lady doing your facial, or pedi, why shouldn't you tip the RMT?

i think the difference is the atmosphere/environment... people go to spas to relax and be pampered.... i think when u go to a RMT .. its more like going to a clinic type setting.. *shrug*

But an RMT is an RMT, no? Does their place of employment affect whether or not you have to tip them? Serious question here. It seems like you have to tip everyone these days.

i guess it depends if you see an RMT and your writing it off to your insurance company... i really dont know... there is no wrong or right... but as ettiquite i tip in spas regardless if they are an RMT or not...

.. its easier for me to tip cause my livelyhood depends on it and i understand others who depend on it to make a living as well... what goes around comes around i suppose...kinda like karma... itll all come back when i need it anyways :)

I assume that they pay higher clinic fees, but then they also charge more....RMT usually charge $70 - $85 per hour in a clinic setting, RMT massaging in a spa charge over $100.....so maybe the higher charge covers their higher fees.

This year I've gotten almost 100 x 1 hour massages. They were amazing and ranged fro $4.00 to $8.00 for an hour. Tips weren't expected but apreciated so I'd usually give a dollar or two.

I was warned to avoid the ladies who give foot massages on the beach... as they never wash their hands between clients. Especially after she just gave that big greasy old man 5 Euro a food rub *quivers*

Further precautions need to be taken with pedis, manis, and plastic surgery. Its cheap for a reason in developing countries.
