What I've gathered from this whole mess so far is that every party leader is essentially a huge douchebag who values partisan politics over the good of the country.

The voters didn't want Stephane Dion as Prime Minister. I *know* we elect MP's not a PM, but most Canadians don't think that way. Stephane Dion was very unpopular nation wide.

Also, the Liberal Party has lost faith in Stephane Dion, and they don't even want him to lead the party. They're holding a leadership race in May(I believe..).

So if niether the Canadian people, NOR THE LIBERAL PARTY, has faith in Stephane Dion, how is it logical for him to become the Prime Minister?

Also, I believe this coalition government won't happen. Michael Ignatieff has stated he is AGAINST it. Mr. Ignatieff is estimated to have the backing of roughly 50 Liberal MP's. If only 9 no show at the confidence vote I assume will now be in January, the Conservatives retain power.

that just goes to show that dion has nothing to gain, i dont think this is much of a power grab for him as it is for jack layon, dion knows he'll be gone in a few months.

Jesus Christ, your understanding of the situation is horrid. The voters didn't want Harper either, what makes him so special?

And the "Canadians don't think that way" argument makes no sense. It's not the government's fault that Canadians don't take the effort to understand their own constitution, and that doesn't change the constitution in any way, shape, or form. Don't encourage people to be ignorant of what their vote means. If we want the vote to mean something else then we should change our constitution so that it does. But in the meantime you don't get to complain when politicians take the vote to mean what it is defined to mean.

God, it's not like our Constitution is so archaic everybody's forgotten what it says. It was written just over a quarter-century ago!

He'll only be PM until he gets ousted in the leadership race.

Thing is the Liberal party DID have confidence in him, but then he screwed over this election so he's stepping down. But that's not the Libs losing confidence in him, that's him losing confidence in his ability to effectively lead the Libs. But he's still the chosen party leader at this time, and therefore the most poised to lead a coalition.

Or maybe it really is that the opposition parties don't support Harper's plan and this really is just the only way that a working government will happen without another election.

God forbid people actually mean what they say. What kind of a fucked up political practice is that?

Remember during the elections when the opposition parties had nothing to say but "blame harper" and "green shit"?

Near as I can tell, the conservatives and bloc are the only parties that actually have their shit together. Hopefully those other douches will think things over during the break.

If he gets the coalition ball rolling, then maybe he wouldn't get ousted because there's proof he's capable of actually doing something?

I don't see how anyone is shocked about the cutting of funding to the Parties(1.95/vote)

It's nothing but a tax payer bail out. If the Cons are AGAINST bailing out failing corporations, why would they be FOR bailing out failing political parties?

some refered to the coalition party leaders as the "old boys club". Which makes sense... these babies just want a crack at the PM spot. That's obvious.

Even though the coalition is part of the game and is within the law, only problem I see is the type of dictation that the Bloc will have in this. Gilles Guisspe (sp) is older than dirt and his policies are wack.

Harper is scared silly. That tv spot he did seemed desperate.

Just a little perspective

new Ipsos Reid poll says

-Nearly 75% of Canadians are 'truly afraid for the future of the country'
-60% of Canadians would "Prefer another election over the Coalition lead by Stephane Dion taking power"
-46% of Canadians would definitely vote Conservative if another election were called, that's clear majority waters people
-60% of Canadians think the Conservative plan is the best to manage the economy.

Also 60% of Canadians would prefer the Cons stay in power compared to 37% who would like the see the Coalition Govern.

Compare that to 50% of Quebecers who want to see the Coalition Govern

"Now, here are some results from our phone-in poll: 95% of the people believe Homer Simpson is guilty. Of course, this is just a television poll which is not legally binding, unless proposition 304 passes. And we all pray it will."

Obviously a poll isn't as reliable as an actual vote, but it gives an idea of general attitude towards a situation.

Pretty much.

In my opinion it's political suicide for the Liberals. They've had trouble with public perception lately, but now it's even worse...
