There is no point in bashing anyone for their religion. While it is true that a large portion of those who profess to be Christians are against gay marriage, not all are. Focus on the arguments, not the people.

I have no problem with people who have religious beliefs which forbid them to have homosexual relationships/marriages/what have you. That is their choice. I do, however, have a problem with those of them who have gotten it into their heads that their morality should be written into LAW. Morality and Law are two distinct, separate fields.

The basic purpose of law in our society is to uphold each individual citizen's right to life and property. The basic purpose of morality is define the best way for individuals to achieve their personal goals in life. I assume that nobody here disputes this?

The type of person who believes that their personal morality should be written into law is using the same mental paradigm as a dictator. You have no right to dictate to your fellow citizens what their morality should be, except as far as assuring that it does not cause harm to you (which is why the law is there).

I shake my head every time I hear someone trying to push their morality into law. They have a fundamentally depraved sense of community. You are not going to spread goodwill towards your fellow man by telling him what to do in his own home! I find it unfortunate and saddening that the basically good principles that Jesus taught have been distorted and misunderstood by the majority of his followers.

When I was a young kid, my Dad told me that the most important lesson to learn in life is to mind my own business. I think that the world will be much better place when people finally learn this lesson.

The bible was written long ago in a dead ancient language. From there, it was translated to the best of their ability to...Hebrew, right? From there, translated to many languages from all over the world. How are we to know that what it says in there now, is what it said when it was first written. Translations can deviate from it's original form easily. I try to stay out of the bible issue when it comes to this subject and focus on the Human Rights side of things, because that's one set of words that EVERYONE follows in Canada--and that's what I understand the most.

No one sees 'God' in the exact same way.

God = Love
Pure unfiltered love.

From there, God is filtered down thru our brains, being reshaped and carved into something that suits us better, and then channeled into the world around us thru our actions and connections.

Pulling the bible card on homosexuality doesn't hit me as all that loving a thing to do.

I partly do agree with you... I've met some gay/lesbian people who are mentally/emotionally FUCKED... you can tell they got a real big problem in there somewhere.

I've also met some really awesome ones.

If gays/lesbians are sinners, then its for a reason. Some sorta past sexual trauma. Being molested when they grew up. Major problems with the opposite sex. I dunno.

If you really live your life by love (which was essentially Christ's main teaching) then you should be helping people get over their issues instead of just pointing and screaming at the problem.


The bible's got some good things in it, but it's also over 2000 years old, and its translation accuracy is questionable. There's WAY more up to date spiritual literature out there than that.

Focus on the solution, use some common sense, and ask for guidance when your confused.

Me too. Actually, scientists have done some work on that, by computing the average number of planets capable of sustaining life compared to barren worlds etc, and multiplying that by the size of a galaxy and taking into account the necessary conditions for replicators to occur... and it turns out (rather obviously) that from what we know, it is VERY VERY likely that there are other life forms in the galaxy, and it is also very likely that some of those are intelligent. That is based on our limited knowledge of astronomy, physics, and biology mostly. So yeah, it would completely beat the odds if were were alone out here.

I don't see how believing that human intelligence is a product of the laws of nature is harder to believe than assuming that some invisible life form exists outside of the realm of all possible human understanding, and that this floaty spirit-form has massive amounts of power, and is able to do whatever it wants.

It is only easier to believe the latter idea if you have already accepted it as a fact.
