and now you're backpeddling. Whether you have significant experience with oppression or not, why did you feel the need to critisize how I go about dealing with it, or organizing against it? What was your purpose? Why the story about your father? Why the comments about "whining" and "woe is me?' What place inside of you, did all that come from? Why? There are only a small few on this board that attack my comments. And it is always the same. Comments on my ego, comments on me being a snob or self righteous. All of these condemnations would demand the prescence of an atittude that was foccussed on myself. And yet most of my comments are directed and deal with a large number of different groups of people, asides from myself. And how in the end of the day, can I take anything you say seriously when you have consistantly told me you dont read anything i write? I can relate to both these comments. Two comments that are the realest things you've said thus far. The first Im not going to touch, as I assume its not something you want to go any further with.

The second, on the other hand needs to be confronted. We study the past, as to help lend substance to solutions for the future. We study the past to find patterns in the present.

This country was built on the genocide of Aborignal peoples that far outshadows even the holocaust (of which I do not deny was a trully horrific period in time) This was in the past, and today we still see an organized attack on Aborignal sovereignty(or there lack of) We still see the reserve system of which apartheid was based on. We still see the manipulation of treaties that where exploitative in the first place. We still see annexation of ceded territory. I can name offensive launched on ordinary Aboriginal peoples for hours...Gustafson Lake, Oka, Burnt Church, Taltahn, Skel-kwe-kelt, Six Nations, FLQ..... all these incidents happened in the last two decades. They all involved military, police and csis. They all involved the ignorance of age old land agreements. They all involved media blackouts. They all involved a manipulation of non-indegenous peoples, the demonization of Indegenous peoples and synthetic strife bred amongst both communities.

One example. Past and present. What does it mean?
