crocop didn't take the fight (or the ufc) seriously it seems.
Post-fight interviews apparently revealed that he hasn't bothered to train inside a cage or train to defend elbows for his last couple fights (don't ask me for a source, i saw some translated croatian interview on sherdog and that site gets posts bumped faster than DOA).
And yes, I think Mirko's days of going strictly for the LHK KO are probably over. People seem to have figured out how to beat that strategy and the smart and able fighters are probably going to employ it everytime they face him. I think Mirko fights best against guys who are intimidated by him and most of the guys he's lost to weren't and just pressed the action (Fedor, Hunt, Gonzaga).
I don't think he's done - in fact this seems to happen to cropcop every couple years - he wins some huge matches, gets cocky/complacent, and then gets beat and then comes back way better than before (randleman, big nog, fedor, hunt) and comes back with a vengeance. I'd hate to be his first opponent coming back...
