i kind of feel like if people want to tell others, thats their own business. imo it is tackier to ask someone what their salary is than for someone to disclose what they make..although these days it's unsavoury to even tell your coworkers what you make..so whose business is it anyways? |

i guess that helps explain why you have little to no empathy for the homeless and "bums".

SO FOR ALL THE PEOPLE WHO THINK THEY ARE WORTH MORE THAN WHAT THEY ARE PAID, WHY DON`T YOU GO OUT AND GET A HIGHER PAYING JOB
I MEAN, THE EASIEST WAY TO FIND OUT IF THE PEDESTAL YOU PUT YOURSELF ON CAN HOLD YOUR WEIGHT IS TO TEST THE MARKET PEOPLE ALWAYS OVER VALUE THEMSELVES o |

Well, the reason why i ask is I was talking to someone on the phones the other day and the lady was at home trying to sort some stuff out about her account. She dropped the "you're taking up my time and my time isn't cheap!" line on me. GOD, you even think about how much your time is worth when you're sitting on your ass at home?
So i was thinking, in an ideal world where all of your skills are being utilized, how much would you be making? Some very skilled people work 2 jobs, 14 hours a day at $10 an hour in a work field totally un-related to their interest. Others work only 1 job and make the same dollars for fewer hours. With the conversation about raising minimum wage going on, how much IS everyone making? How many are getting by on only 1 job? Who has side projects to make money on the side? Are you getting paid more on yoru side project than your primary job? And if so, why are you busitng your ass on yoru primary job?! Everyone will have a different answer. I'm just curious and have time to read. =) |

I work in a sales position in the events industry. Plus I've been clocking in 20 hours of over time per week which is nuts. Lots of work. I guess a far cry from a few years ago where I'd make more in a month then many do in a year, then I wouldn't work for a few months and do it all over again. Pretty easy lifestyle!.....but unfulfilling.
When I went to India, it's not unusual for strangers on the train to start talking and then ask all sorts of personal questions about Salary. The average wage there is just a few dollars a day so they were absolutely shocked when I said it's not unusual for people to make $100 per day! The look in their eyes was classic. I'd do my best and put it in perspective though. Lunch here is $12.00, There it's 50 cents. So it's kind of like making the same thing. Then they'd start to understand.....sort of. It was hard to get over the fact that they were sitting on some ghetto train with super rich white people! |

Those of you posting your salaries, I highly recommend you review your company's privacy/confidentiality policy. It most likely includes a non-disclosure statement that you signed off on. I've seen people fired for what they posted on the internet - be careful! Your HR department knows more about you than you think. |

I think its cool to have this thread, cause in real life if you make good money, you want to brag about it but you can't, cause it is considered tacky. All you can say is "oh, I do all right...", in that nonchalant way that lets them know what a huge baller you are. It's kinda nice to be able to brag without shame..
Me: I used to weld in Alberta, and I'd get $31 an hour, plus all the over time I wanted. I was way overpaid, we would slack of all day and do the bare minimum, but the labor market was so tight the employers just have to put up with it. Now I'm in University in kamloops, and I deliver pizza part time, $8 an hour, plus tips. sigh.......... |

The trucking company I work for pays by a flat rate, so if conditions are good and I can bang a trip off in 10-11 hours, I do quite well and am paid what I am worth...... but if the roads are fucked and it takes me 16 hours to do the same trip, my hourly wage works out to much less. Essentially, the more I work, the less I make. Funny how that works isnt it?
Im so glad winter is here.... |

The only people who win when your not allowed to disclose your salary is your employers. It either means your being underpaid or someone else is. If your not in a position to just pick up and leave then your being paid exactly what your worth.
