my car got totaled in January, in what was my second time getting t-boned driver side at 70km +
it hurts, a lot. i haven't bought a new car. i was going to and then this idea popped in my head, which was FUCK IT, go travel with the money. not having a car hasn't exactly hit me yet as i don't care to drive more then is neccesary (FEAR) and my dad lent me his truck as he was hit HEAD ON a week before my accident and broke his knee in my moms car and has no real desire to drive much either. ( The firemen who cut me out of my car, cut him out a week prior, they weren't even suprised really....driving in the lower mainland is dangerous business fuck the cost of fuel, cost of life) |

i think i'll stop driving once my baby breaks down and dies. i dont think i'd be able to afford another car.
transit is pretty darn expensive IMO, and for an extra 200$ a month, i can have my car and i can go anywhere, anytime, in about half the time transit takes. |

I pay for maintenance on my car, I just don't pay for the labour on it as my dad and brother can do it.
I buy the oil filters and oil, or the brake pads... sometimes my dad does help and pay for it... but thats what dads do. I'm aware of how much my car costs to maintain and it's still not a reason for me to stop driving. I enjoy having my car and even if I worked downtown, I would still have one because it's convienent if I want to go somewhere thats not downtown. e.g. driving to la casa gelato on sunday night or tuesday night at 10pm... the gelato was very good and worth the drive... |

those can all be 'expensed' if you use your vehicle for business.

I'll stop driving when they pry my car from my cold dead hands.
With that said, I did move to a more fuel efficient car. I do also try combine multiple trips into one. In the end though, what really saves me money is maintenance. If I paid full price, I'd be broke. But I get 30+% off on parts at Lordco, and a guy I grew up with who now lives in Vancouver is a mechanic. I always pay him for the work done, but what I pay is 66-75% off of what I'd pay at a shop. Since I've never owned a new vehicle (yet), maintenance costs normally would be high, but between cheap parts and cheap labor, realistically, gas prices would have to get past $3/litre before I'd really feel the sting. |
