when will you stop driving?

with gas at $1.50 a liter the obvious question to me is, how much is to much. will you change your driving habits for $2 or $3 a liter? I know some people are already considering moving closer to work, walking, riding transit or car pooling.

personally I don't commute for work and only drive for pleasure but have already noticed less traffic on the road.

I still drive, but the way I drive is different. No more fast starts off the line and I do the speed limit as much as I can, not that I speed like an asshole, but the 10-15 over is just not happening anymore. I also don't drive as much as I used to. I do as much as I can in one trip.

I'll stop driving when I can no longer write off my gas receipts.

i do hypermiling now.

Hypermiling :: No more need to compare gas prices

and im also kinda fanatic about tire pressure, ignition timing and oil additives.

the price of energy has just helped me to warry of wastefulness and thats a good thing.

i remember when i first started to drive during the EPIC gas wars of 98-99 when gas was down to 38 cents a liter and there were 1.2 MILLION less people in the lowermainland. id just drive for the sake of driving.

now fule is pushing 1.60 and there are TOOOOO MAAAAANY FUUUCKING PEEEEEEEOPLE OOOON THE ROAAAAAADS.

even in the last 5 years i cant beleive how much more busy it is on the roads....

where are all these people comming from? fuck.

I already don't drive. I take transit everywhere.

Rides from friends make up about 5% of my travel so I really am very rarely in a car.

(That barely balances out how much I plan to fly this year in terms of fuel consumption/carbon footprint)

I live and work dt and don't often have reasons to leave dt. I usually walk or ride my bmx most places. Makes it easy to avoid redick gas prices.

i drive maybe once or twice a week. but i could leave my car parked and only drive once or twice a month if i wanted to. it is a huge waste of money for me living downtown witout even factoring in gas prices.

come winter im saying bye bye to my car. going to save sooo much money. the only time i really need a vehicle is day trips down to seattle (we do about 6 a year) or to visit my parents.
but i also work for a car dealership and am not opposed to spending $50 to rent a car.

Not driving isn't an option for my job , location and lifestyle. I'll convert to propane, drop my lift and mudders for smaller and chip my vehicles before i quit.

Live downtown, work just over the bridge.

So walking is an easy option. It's about a 35 min walk to work. I love going for walks so it's a good system.

I haven't owned a car in years, and I believe it's been six months since I drove.

Got a 2 inch lift on my 91 highway pathfinder and a 4 inch lift on my 93 after redoing the engine and throwing on a turbo (i was bored). Got a volkswagon golf for a runabout.

Also, car companies are slapped with fuel consumption/air care laws all the time, demanding cleaner emmissions and better fuel consumption. Fuel consumption in vehicles will be something rediculous (around 20'ish percent) less then cars built 10 years ago.
People don't always seem to get there's performance cars and economy cars, you can't have both.
On a random side note, my boss's chipped dodge gets about 1200km/tank on the highway when drivin economically. Around 900 when drivin like a madman.

I walk to work most of the time and don't even have a car at the moment. I consider getting one from time to time because I rely on my bf to take us placed on the weekend, but I think it would be to much of a shock to my wallet after a year of no car.

I have not had a car at my disposal for over 6 months and am fine with that. I am able to relax and read on the way to/from work, and am saving a ton. However, come September I may need to buy a car to get to and from work/school, though It may be easier just to use transit.

Ideally I would like to never need a car again and rely soley on public transport and excercise.

at this price the average person driving a Honda Civic would spend $6000-$7000 a year or $500+ a month on gas. driving around a Dodge 1500 with a Hemi would cost $25,000+ a year in gas!

I'm spending about 50$ a week on gas, pretty affordable since I drive a BMW and put higher octane fuel into it.

I love my car and don't think I'll get rid of it
