I wouldn't call it driving for the hell of it. It costs us less to drive to work then it would if we took transit (crazy huh?), I can go where ever I want when ever I want and it takes more then half the travel time off. Yes, there is the odd time when I go for a drive. It clears my head and I like singing 'free fallin' at the top of my lungs, but that only happens about once or twice a year.

I'll never stop driving. Getting a new whip in a month or so. It'll use half the gas, that my beast of a truck use's now.

2 tanks a week at $180 to fill, is getting old though..

I'm aware of how much my car costs to maintain and it's still not a reason for me to stop driving.

I enjoy having my car and even if I worked downtown, I would still have one because it's convienent if I want to go somewhere thats not downtown.

e.g. driving to la casa gelato on sunday night or tuesday night at 10pm... the gelato was very good and worth the drive...

Fine, it's a great attitude.

Everyone, drive as much as you want, and don't bother trying to conserve at all.

I won't stop driving. I go upwards of 80k km a year, and it's all a tax write off. 50c~ a km or maybe more now. That's 40grand a year I can write off, and I don't spend anywhere near that on gas/repairs. Not to mention I need to drive for work, and could never get used to transit. I've had a car since I was 16.

If the topic is "when will you stop driving" then "I'm never gonna stop driving because my car is my baby!" or "I can afford to drive forever because I'm rich!!!" is pretty much on topic.

Whether they're intelligent comments is another question entirely..

i commute to richmond every day for work so I go through about a tank a week.

I would love to work closer to my house but moving closer to work is not an option (i work near the richmond/new west border - that place is a hole). I'm going to start carpooling more as transit to the area is ass.

You missed the point Senior. It wasn't bragging, it was a practical statement as to why I won't stop driving. The amount I can write off from driving is FAR more than what I actually spend(due to the government's assessment of $ per km). In the end, I nearly drive for free, and I need to drive for my job anyways.

I live behind coquitlam center and transit to Richmond every day. I go through about the same in gas. Trying to move closer isnt as easy as people say it is.

I've taken transit exclusively for three years now. I only drive when I rent a car for a roadtrip. My girlfriend doesn't drive either, but we are considering joining the car co-op. I simply cannot afford to own a car on insurance and gas prices alone, let alone the fact it costs more to park downtown every month than it does to buy a bus pass. I don't really mind transit most of the time, since it gives me an opportunity to read and write reviews.
The ridiculous part of this whole thing is they had electric cars in the 1950s and they still won't allow them to be mass-produced. How obvious can it be that car companies and big oil are murdering the planet and bilking the poor for profit?

^ Yup the EV-1. They say it was because of heavy lobbying that made GM recall the initial batch of leased EV-1's that were eventually destroyed. There is another electric car coming called the chevy VOLT which has half the range running on electricity (64KM). It's technically a hybrid because it still has a internal combustion engine that helps recharge the battery.
