The City council is absolutely retarded then, destroying such a beautiful and unique venue such as the plaza for some over rated casino which prolly will go under in a matter of 4 or 5 years tops, is ridiculous. I vote that if they are going to make a casino, build a floating building or a very big boat and put it on the Fraser River where it is more accessable for the people. What do you think?

Yeah, they're like so stupid.

We totally know that raves generate more jobs for residents and revenue than a casino would

Yeah they are, I don't consider jobs within a casino jobs, I consider them a showcase of criminal organizations period. It might not start out that way, but I gaurentee you its going to happen. Once again destroying such a unique and beautiful venue IS RETARDED! I for one (and MANY others agree with me) would like to look at a gorgeous building, rather then some half ass casino which has the risk of going under as well, its pointless, and with your comment to generating more jobs, Its not significant enough to hire what might be a creditable staff (more so higher up, but never the less would probably have ties down lower) of maybe a few servers, a few gambling dealers (within vancouver, just try getting several with a good track record and with applicable experience), a Treasurer, few managers, and thats about it. I'm sorry but for the venue itself production companies and OTHER entertainment organizations generate many jobs as well, within the company directly, or indirectly with their business associates. Nothing positive will come of a casino, unless you consider potential bankrupcy and an intimidating atmosphere benefical.

She was being sarcastic genius....Overall the casino will make a lot more money than Raves ever will. It sucks but it's the reality.

Yeah, I got that impression, kinda, hard to tell when its just text....I was also elaborating on my post earlier on... thus using her post as a means of doing so.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I agree it does suck. it might overall generate more revenue, but I was also stating that there are also many other practical locations rather than plaza. (ie hastings park, on the fraser river, surrey, heh, anywhere except downtown vancouver, which seems to dominate already in live entertainment. I also feel that the longivity of having a casino there might be a little to risky, thus being a complete waste of time, work, and once again money, I hope that it wont go through due to some overlooked or underlooked issue.......but if it does, we'll see....

I did....the construction hasn't started yet tho Maybe I'm being too optimistic, but until they do start construction, I'm still keeping my hopes up.

As optamistic as you can be it will not change the fact that it is going through. I was expecting it to go to vote at least twice adding a little more time to the enevitable but first round of voting it went through.

True, but raves aren't entirely based around drug dealers to generate revenue......casinos are. They are established to cheat, and make money off the sweat off your backs. It could be argued that drugs MAY generate the rave, and the mood, even tho that might true to some extent, I have been seeing less and less people popping, and doing misc other drugs, I have been seeing fewer dealers at the many parties i have attended with in the past 15 months or so, and many other dealers get busted before they even get into the party. I for one, don't do drugsm nor drink, therefore I think its great to see a thourogh cleansing of the scene, to avoid any further stereotype, which I believe city council based their ruling on. Yes it sucks, and yes I agree with other ppl posting earlier on in the thread that "more time to vote past one voting seating should have been considered".

But once again, it goes just beyond raves as well. Its a gorgeous venue, one of its kind, and it attracts many other arts and entertainment events which generates legit revenue as well. One of the main points I have been stressing post in, and post out. Its just sad to see such a good thing go to such a bleak demise.
