The City council is absolutely retarded then, destroying such a beautiful and unique venue such as the plaza for some over rated casino which prolly will go under in a matter of 4 or 5 years tops, is ridiculous. I vote that if they are going to make a casino, build a floating building or a very big boat and put it on the Fraser River where it is more accessable for the people. What do you think?

We totally know that raves generate more jobs for residents and revenue than a casino would er... |

Yeah, I got that impression, kinda, hard to tell when its just text....I was also elaborating on my post earlier on... thus using her post as a means of doing so.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------- I agree it does suck. it might overall generate more revenue, but I was also stating that there are also many other practical locations rather than plaza. (ie hastings park, on the fraser river, surrey, heh, anywhere except downtown vancouver, which seems to dominate already in live entertainment. I also feel that the longivity of having a casino there might be a little to risky, thus being a complete waste of time, work, and once again money, I hope that it wont go through due to some overlooked or underlooked issue.......but if it does, we'll see.... I did....the construction hasn't started yet tho Maybe I'm being too optimistic, but until they do start construction, I'm still keeping my hopes up. |

True, but raves aren't entirely based around drug dealers to generate revenue......casinos are. They are established to cheat, and make money off the sweat off your backs. It could be argued that drugs MAY generate the rave, and the mood, even tho that might true to some extent, I have been seeing less and less people popping, and doing misc other drugs, I have been seeing fewer dealers at the many parties i have attended with in the past 15 months or so, and many other dealers get busted before they even get into the party. I for one, don't do drugsm nor drink, therefore I think its great to see a thourogh cleansing of the scene, to avoid any further stereotype, which I believe city council based their ruling on. Yes it sucks, and yes I agree with other ppl posting earlier on in the thread that "more time to vote past one voting seating should have been considered".
But once again, it goes just beyond raves as well. Its a gorgeous venue, one of its kind, and it attracts many other arts and entertainment events which generates legit revenue as well. One of the main points I have been stressing post in, and post out. Its just sad to see such a good thing go to such a bleak demise. |
