"Youth in Revolt: The Journals of Nick Twisp"
This is the first book that I've had the patience to read for a very long time. I'm still 4/5ths through it though. I can't say that it's a GREAT book either, but for some reason i was able to read it, possibly because it is just so ridiculous, funny, childish, straight-forward and sarcastic. It's almost like a book for adults that was written from the perspective of an awkward teenager. Nick talks a lot about jerking off, wanting to lose his virginity, Sheenie Saunders, and his T.E. (Thunderous erection). The book is far from realistic but I guess the stupidity of it all is what makes it so easy to read. |

Oh, while I'm here, can someone suggest me a good book to read?
I'm looking for something that is brutually honest, sarcastic, some-what cynical and socially critical, and at the same time humorous in an odd way. am I asking too much or too little? |

Yoko - check out Apathy and Other Small Victories. It might be what you're looking for. Coupland or Pahlaniuk may be too. Or Battle Royale (i forget who the author is) - Sort of like Pahlaniuks Fight Club. It's hardcore but good. now reading: Tandia by Bryce Courtney |

^don delillo's 'white noise' and 'americana' are also really good. they're funny and dark and socially critical. but yeah, you should definitly check out douglas coupland or chuck palahniuk, like max said.
maybe bret easton ellis too. american psycho, less than zero, rules of attraction are all killer books. rules of attraction is my favourite. chuck klosterman's book of essays "sex, drugs and cocoa puffs" is also really good if you want funny pop culture analysis from saved by the bell to pamela anderson. |

Seconded, white noise was an amazing novel. I absolutely love the way Delilo plays with narrative pace to even set the white noise buzzing throughout the book. I've bought that book for friend's birthdays and they've all seemed to like it too. |
