If you would like to contact me directly please do so via pm. Sorry my late reply, it was a late night and a complete explanation and solution is forth-coming. Kat, thanx for posting while we were all sleeping this morning, you were a big part of putting this together and we're all really happy to have you on our team :) Last edited by Akeel; Mar 18, 07 at 09:39 PM. |

Sound wasn't that bad, it WAS overly hot though. Akeel did well. Considering the situation and the stress/downer of a no-show and 200+ grumbling partiers, it was probably hard on the mind to spin and have fun. He could have definitely asked for someone else to fill in, there were probably several other dj's that could have. Trainwrecks happen. Get over it. You just weren't having fun so it sounded worse, than it would have if you were. Still, it wasn't the best whole damn party in the world (due to the headliners not showing) but i'm impressed by the venue. It had potential. Oh, and more washrooms would have been cool. |

Thanx guys :)
I will be posting a detailed explanation soon. over the last few years POUND has been the first promoter to bring General Midi (last year first time in western canada, previously only had 1 appearance in toronto) Autobots (for the first time to canada almost 3 years ago) Breakfastaz (first time in canada four years ago) and many many many others going back almost ten years. We've been around a lot longer then some promoters in our fair city, and we're not going anywhere. period. This is the first and only show we have not delivered what we promised and we will take care of things. Last edited by Akeel; Mar 18, 07 at 11:18 PM. |

Un-predictable shit happens when throwing events -- especially when customs/crossing borders are involved.
Having known Pound/Akeel for a very long time, I can't see them scheming to put together and promote an event that they didn't have full intention in making happen. As Akeel mentioned, I'm sure they will plan on doing something as a result. |

For the record that place and that party was spot on, I proudly trusted in the Pound name for my evening knowing very well what else was going on in town. I came, paid my dues and fully enjoyed myself. The music was by no means weakened by the lack of the autobots or midi. I was (as well as everyone else in attendance) saddened by the loss of the two, but someone true to their evening doesn't let a hiccup get in the path of enjoying themselves.

i don't know why people who never post here think they can come on, bitch out a company and just disappear again. why should anyone here care about your opinion, when you only come on to talk shit? we get it, you had a bad time. is this the first time you've been to a show and the headliner didn't show up? i can pretty much guarantee you that everyone else on the board has been through this before. get over it. take your 7 posts and get a life.

having worked with Seanny and POUND since 2000.. I feel the need to add my kudos to them and let those of you who think there might have been a covert operation in order to rob you of 20 bucks, that you can rest easy.. nothing of the sort was going on.
When I arrived at the show at 1230, Seanny was outside doing his best legal mumbo-jumbo negotiation with the officials at the border just trying to get them through. As kraig posted.. the border people can be asses and especially don't like DJs. I'm sure any of you who know or are promoters or are a DJ can attest that this exact situation had happened to you at one point or another. YOu can be sure POUND will not sacrifice its reputation as a leading purveyor of breakbeats for the people in Vancouver over a circumstatial situation such as this. HOld tight.. POUND has alot in the works for all of us in the upcoming year.. you will be properly taken care of. PS- can anyone argue that just going to that space, and hearing sick breaks on that sound system was worth the cash?? MIDI and Autobotz would have been worth at least 35 had they been able to make it. Just another way POUND tries to keep the music accessible for everyone. thanks again to Seanny and Akeel and all the POUND nation for keeping it real peace, Shan AKA S.K.Bass |

Dear POUND Nation,
What can I say except, "we're sorry." For those of you who came solely to hear the Autobots & General Midi, "We're sorry." We worked our asses off to bring these guys to our St. Patty's Day jam. Judging by the quality of the production, the turnout and the vibe, we delivered. Unfortunately we didn't plan well enough to deal with issues at the border and fell flat on our faces where it mattered most. We didn't give the guys enough time to get back from Oregon if Canada Customs felt like being dicks. At 12:38 AM I got the call from the boys, who were in the middle of getting right-reamed by the border guards. I only wish they had better things to do with their time than harrass DJ's. After 200+ events this was only our 2nd no-show. Now having said that, I'd like to thank the 90% of you who didn't let this SNAFU ruin your night. You always seem to have our backs. This weekend we gave you everything we had, bringing in carpenters to mount the speakers in the ceiling and to hang the decks in the gallery; ripping out half the seats and risers in the theatre so everyone could have room to dance; providing cheap cover, cheap booze and a safe place to get wasted so normal people could afford to go out for a change. And you. . . you gave it all right back. You were giving it all night long with no cares about no-shows, hype or "the scene." You were too busy dancing and sweating and having a good time. As far as we're concerned, you made that party as good as any in our long history. You seasoned partiers know that *sometimes* shit like this happens - and you blew the doors off the Beaumont. In terms of make-ups, we really can't do much about refunds at this point, but we will be hosting a special private make-up party at a future date. We'd ask you to support our efforts and cut us some slack so we can continue to push ahead with new shows in new spaces at affordable prices for cool people. I'd ask you all to sign up on the POUND mailing list and give us a chance to figure out what's the next best way to set things right. Since we don't have a good paper trail, we will have to use the POUND list as the determinant, so please sign up. http://www.poundrecordings.com If that's still not good enough for you, please send me an e-mail and I will personally work with you to fix things. Peace, Sean Karl, President POUND Recordings Inc. [email protected] |
