Not having a Guarantor for your passport application!

ARUKDUGHKTYKDJTKLSETHIEH~!!

Dentist is on mat leave (office won't let me fax/contact her)

Doctor has left for the states to persue a better career path.

Principal from highschool has retired (not eligible)

I have no:

Chiropractor
Notary public
Optometrist
Pharmacist
Police officer (municipal, provincial or RCMP)
Postmaster

And this Declaration in lieu of a guarantor form can take up to three months to be processed...
AND after all that it could still be declined.

i hate having horrible luck.

if you read the fine print... going to a notary doesn't help, you still need to know them for two years.

I personally don't know a police officer, and haven't known one for the two year minimum.
I asked someone, and spoke to an officer who said he would NOT sign the application because he could lose his badge if they checked into it.

Same deal with my current doctor and dentist.

well according to the application process, and fine print etc...

3. Photos

4. Guarantor 5. Submit
>>

Applying for a passport

Guarantor

Retired guarantors are not eligible unless the guarantor's name still appears on the listing provided to Passport Canada by the relevant association.
The guarantor must complete and sign the "Declaration of Guarantor" section of the application form and be able to confirm your identity. In the case of a child, the guarantor must have known the applicant (parent or legal guardian) personally for at least two years and have knowledge of the child.
Duties of a guarantor

Your guarantor must perform the following tasks free of charge:
  1. Certify the information on the application form by completing and signing the "Declaration of Guarantor" section.
  2. Write on the back of one of your or your child's photos, "I certify this to be a true likeness of (either your name or your child's name)" and sign.
  3. If applicable, sign and date the photocopy of your supplementary documentation.
Eligible guarantors

Your guarantor must:
  1. Be a Canadian citizen residing in Canada and must be accessible to Passport Canada for verification.
  2. Have known you personally for at least two years.
  3. Be one of the following:
    • Chiropractor
    • Dentist
    • Judge
    • Lawyer (member of a provincial bar association), notary in Quebec
    • Magistrate
    • Mayor
    • Medical doctor
    • Minister of religion authorized under provincial law to perform marriages
    • Notary public
    • Optometrist
    • Pharmacist
    • Police officer (municipal, provincial or RCMP)
    • Postmaster
    • Principal of a primary or secondary school
    • Professional accountant (APA, CA, CGA, CMA, PA, RPA)
    • Professional engineer (P.Eng., Eng. in Quebec)
    • Senior administrator in a community college (includes CEGEPs)
    • Senior administrator or teacher in a university
    • Veterinarian
and then the lieu of application is what you can get a notary for...
Declaration in lieu of guarantor

If you have not known an eligible guarantor for at least two years, complete form PPTC 132 "Statutory Declaration in Lieu of Guarantor" available from any Passport Canada office.
The "Statutory Declaration in Lieu of Guarantor" form must be sworn to or declared before, and signed by, a person authorized by law to administer an oath or a solemn declaration. If completed outside Canada, a qualified official includes a Canadian or British diplomatic or consular representative, or a qualified local official.

but as I said, I could be mistaken. Everyone I spoke to seemed to think it was possible,
and yet no one has actually done it themselves. And when I read the instructions very carefully I came to the conclusion that it was not possible.
Notary's are just the only person on the first list that can sign the Declaration in Lieu of....which still takes months

That cant be right about the 2 years thing necessarily. I mean how do you get a child under the age of 2 a passport? Not to mention I am sure there are LOTS of other ppl who run into similar problems as Alison.

Alison I remember when I got my 1st pass port I had to pay $60-$80 for a clinic Dr. to do it. I had to pay the money because I didnt know her for two years and wasnt my registered family Dr. However that was 6 years ago.

Alison you may have to get creative with this. Even if you had any teachers who earned their masters and became a Dr???

What are the guarantor requirements for children?
When a child’s passport application is submitted, the applicant is the parent and not the child. Therefore, the guarantor must know the parent personally for at least two years and have knowledge of the child.
