I know it's hard to work out when you feel totally sick.
one thing that has helped me immensely is regular practice of yoga, and doing the right poses just before bedtime can really ease your mind and help you sleep better (trust me on this one!). If you've got 30 minutes and a basic knowledge of postures, go to yoga journal and download their podcasts - they have a night sequence one that is about 30 mins and is gentle and easy and sends you into relax mode. if you don't have time/space to do a full practice, try doing this posture (can be done even laying in bed!) and breathing deeply for 30 seconds to a minute. I like doing it immediately before I go to sleep and it helps me decompress the day and fall asleep fast: Yoga Journal - Happy Baby Pose |

Anxiety is a really hard thing to deal with...like most ppl I have been struggling with it for years and the one thing that I find really helps is different types of breathing. As funny as it sounds sometimes its as simple as allowing enough oxygen to flow to your brain to calm you down. Just sitting for a few moments, laying your head back and taking deep relaxing breaths inhaling through your mouth and exhaling through your nose can really make a difference.
I recently took up Kundalini Yoga which is a physical and meditative discipline, comprising a set of techniques that use the mind, senses and body to create a communication between "mind" and "body". I know that it can be hard when you have a million other things going on in your life and no time for stuff like this.. but maybe if you can take a moment for yourself and try the breathing you may see a difference. Good luck! |

i'd suggest benadryl, but you appear to be opposed to drugs. i second the valerian suggestion. you also might want to add a magnesium supplement. the Natural Factors Magnesium Citrate 150 mg in 90s goes for $10 a bottle at your health food store. Magnesium tends to get used up a lot during daily activities. Siberian ginseng will help calm you down, and rhodiola rosea will moderate your neurotransmitters and optimize your energy levels. oh, yes. ahem. more orgasms help too. ahem. :o |

^ive cut down on the coffee considerably. Only one mug on my way to work and then I drink decafienated green tea the rest of the day.
Try breathing techniques too, it helps a lot and try working out 3-4 times a week. And get a big bad sweat goin on. |

I dont drink any form of caffeine (pop, green black or white teas, coffee, or even powdered iced teas!) past 4pm.
i stopped for a few weeks as a test a few years ago and was totally amazed. i didnt think that caffeine affected me that much, but i was fed up with trying to sleep so unsuccesfully. im glad i dont get anxiety on top of not being able to sleep!! oh. you could also try getting stupid stoned, that always puts me to sleep. |

Cognitive behavioural therapy...
Find out what triggers your anxiety. What of those triggers can be dealt with and which ones are better to avoid all together. Once you get to the root of what's causing the problems, you can begin formulating means of combatting them. All the drugs and exercise in the world will not help you if you still have the same unaddressed issues and you will always have anxiety until you learn to identify and deal with them in a healthy manner. That being said, oftentimes drugs and/or exercise will give you the change of perspective to begin to address those problems. If worse comes to worse, seek out a counselor. |

*This was my advise regarding weed and anxiety, I think it applies here too*
I personally also have had quite a few bouts with anxiety over the last few years of my life. Eventually when it got bad I went to a doctor. They just wanted to put me on chemicals. Not my idea of solving the problem. This lead me to a naturopath. She was an incredible Woman. This was her advise. Number 1 thing: Diet Anxiety is almost like a little alarm going off in your brain. It's saying "I'm malfuntioning in some way, a little help here? Please?" Water is huge. Put in a conscious effort to drink at LEAST 1 litre of water a day, 2 is better. Sugar is really bad. It seriously tears through your veins like little shards of glass. It causes highs and lows, a lot like many other drugs, and can have a huge effect on anxiety. Caffine is a stimulant. Avoid it for a while. It increases your heart rate and can make you a lot more sensitive as you become over-stimulated. You get the idea. You don't have to stop eating these things just cut down a bit and see how you feel...and DRINK WATER. It really helps. Number 2: Exercise When you excercise your brain releases endorfins that make you feel really good and really relaxed. Almost like getting stoned off your own brain juice. It's pretty sweet and very important. NUmber 3: Meditate Spend at least 15 minutes a day, hopefully more, sitting still and focusing on clearing thoughts out of your head. A really good way to do this is to picture your thoughts as clouds just kinda floatin' on by. Detach yourself from em' and don't get frustrated when a thought pops back up. Just turn it into a cloud and watch it float away. If you keep this up for a little while you will relax. It's tricky at first but it REALLY works. Be persistant. Doing this fixed me up when I was pretty well completely f*ucked in the head. It works...you'll be ok! |
