Infected Mushroom - Classic Mushroom album.
Accidentally found it in the pop section at A&B sound. Also speed garage kept me searching for that sound for years, ended up buying a microkorg synth so I could play the bass as much as I felt. They are playing in Vancouver on July 4 from 8pm-midnight at the commodore. |

First couple of parties I went to, I was pretty much just falling in love with the drugs. It wasn't until Interstellar Overdrive at Plaza in late 99?.. early 2000?.. that I found a breaks room and thought "Hey... I actually like this music!".. What a concept.
Learned to appreciate a lot of other genres along the way but it all comes back to the funky break for me. |

Started off being into the drugs and the Hard House(because i was on drugs) then at Pumpin at Plaza in September 2000 i was sitting outside the breaks room and could hear Rick West come on. That really got me into the breaks. A short while later i heard Pressure's funky house CD and i've loved house ever since. Good times, good music. |

meh, I might not qualify here, i was never a 'raver'.. well, almost, but then I snapped out of it. ha.
Musically? I'd say Public Enemy / Bomb Squad & earliest Meat Beat Manifesto for the initial kick. From one example to the other, its was all attitude, politics vs "art", noise, industrial hip-hop crossovers, a lopsided punk rock snear, and breakbeats. Gold really. Dj-wise, I was originally into Detroit techno - banging, minimal to the soulful, and the early 90's ambient stuff. Atmosphere has always been very important. Rising High Records anyone? This is where I learned that. I've always liked House music, in specific guises, but didnt' sink my teeth into it much dj-wise. I was a big fan of the Dj Pierre "Wild Pitch" thing, Felix the Housecat's earliest stuff, Dj Sneak, Dj Skull - the Djax Upbeats tracky style. I had all the records, but didn't apply myself. And then Jungle happened. ha. End of story. Last edited by **TORMENT**; Jul 18, 09 at 08:54 AM. |
