Infected Mushroom - Classic Mushroom album.

Accidentally found it in the pop section at A&B sound. Also speed garage kept me searching for that sound for years, ended up buying a microkorg synth so I could play the bass as much as I felt.

They are playing in Vancouver on July 4 from 8pm-midnight at the commodore.

Man I totally feel OLD reading most of y'all's responses on which tracks got you INTO the 'rave scene' (late 90's to quite recently - no offense implied, you all know your music)... Just that by that time, Physically and mentally, I was already 'educated' on the substances (myself as the subject, heh) and paraphernalia that were introduced to me through this "scene" in the late 80's - early 90's. HAHOHAH!! I mean, I remember Hashish and listening to Time Syndicate's "Rock Wit Me" & Free Bass's "Spliffed + Chillin' " on a cassette tape, I THINK that was 1990, maybe '89,,, HEH.... It gets me thinking... when DID the rave scene begin? Would I be considered a 'Pioneer' of the 'scene'? or simply a music lover? Hmmm..

First couple of parties I went to, I was pretty much just falling in love with the drugs. It wasn't until Interstellar Overdrive at Plaza in late 99?.. early 2000?.. that I found a breaks room and thought "Hey... I actually like this music!".. What a concept.

Learned to appreciate a lot of other genres along the way but it all comes back to the funky break for me.

I had a similar experience.

Started off being into the drugs and the Hard House(because i was on drugs) then at Pumpin at Plaza in September 2000 i was sitting outside the breaks room and could hear Rick West come on. That really got me into the breaks.

A short while later i heard Pressure's funky house CD and i've loved house ever since.

Good times, good music.

The differances between the genres were foggy for me in the beginning to but i knew i loved that strange music played by Freaky Flow, Dieselboy, Aphrodite, and anything from the Moving Shadow label.

Thus began my love of Drum&Bass/Jungle stronger then ever 9 years later.

Except for the fact that he hasn't been involved in the scene for years.

Frosty still goes out on the regular.

meh, I might not qualify here, i was never a 'raver'.. well, almost, but then I snapped out of it. ha.

Musically?

I'd say Public Enemy / Bomb Squad & earliest Meat Beat Manifesto for the initial kick. From one example to the other, its was all attitude, politics vs "art", noise, industrial hip-hop crossovers, a lopsided punk rock snear, and breakbeats. Gold really.

Dj-wise, I was originally into Detroit techno - banging, minimal to the soulful, and the early 90's ambient stuff. Atmosphere has always been very important. Rising High Records anyone? This is where I learned that.

I've always liked House music, in specific guises, but didnt' sink my teeth into it much dj-wise. I was a big fan of the Dj Pierre "Wild Pitch" thing, Felix the Housecat's earliest stuff, Dj Sneak, Dj Skull - the Djax Upbeats tracky style. I had all the records, but didn't apply myself.

And then Jungle happened. ha. End of story.
