Anyone who thinks that trading Luongo is even an option (at this point) is out of their mind. Last season's numbers were totally skewed with the birth of his child and him being injured.
If the Canucks are in some serious trouble come X-mas, THEN a trade might be considered. |

The fucking Wing won it all with Lidstrom, and we don't have or will ever get Lidstrom. The Flames won it with Mike Vernon too, but we ain't getting Al MacInnis in his prime neither. That and I think Luongo is that great. If the Penguins had him instead of "Big Rebounds" Fleury, they would have won easily.

We are weak upfront big time. The Sedins are they best SECOND line in hockey, no doubt about it. We need a first line with a center who can score, playmake, and defend. We need a RW sniper that can score, and playmake. Last but not least, a LW power forward that can make some room out there and have some offensive talent. How do you go about getting a first line like that.... We tried to sign Sundin, and Gillies did the best he could do. Throw tons of money at him, and it didn't work ( I hate Sundin now!) We have Pyatt who could fill the role of the LW, but at age 26 he hasn't made that much noise, and I really doubt if he ever will. So that leves us with just the RW to fill if Sundin signs with us. Well we probly could trade Bieska, or Edler, or both to get a poper sniper. That's not so bad...... But what if we can't sign Sundin.... How the fuck are we supposed to fill center, and the rw on the first line.... WE ARE ALL CANUCKS........... |

cheery optimism for the upcoming season
When Mike Gillis was announced as the new general manager, he said his goal was to make the Canucks a winner right away and he would build the team in that direction. But, two months later, as virtually every other team in the West has improved themselves significantly, he's lost Naslund; is about to lose Brendan Morrison; he's added three insignificant fourth-liners; and he waits helplessly as the enigmatic Sundin decides if he'll play in Vancouver for $20 million. I mean, if the most virulent Canucks hater would have plotted the team's downfall, it's doubtful he could have come up with everything that's happened. This team is now on the precipice of disaster and the only thing that can save them -- failing a change of Sundin's heart -- is a superhuman season from Roberto Luongo and/or a masterful coaching job from Alain Vigneault and that means another seven months of 2-1 games. But this is going way beyond personal feelings. This is about the future of the franchise and, right now, that future isn't very bright. At the end of the regular season, it was clear to anyone who'd seen the Canucks play for five minutes that the team was decent but they needed to upgrade their forwards. Naslund's abdication to the Rangers sends the worst kind of message to Canucks fans about the Gillis administration. Granted, the captain didn't represent the best option but he was a loyal Canuck, a former Gillis client and when coupled with Sundin, he was still a tantalizing alternative. zx v"The Rangers are going in the right direction and I want to be a part of that," Naslund explained. He didn't say what direction the Canucks are headed. Ed Willes, sayin' it like it is! at least they're in the running for Tavares..... |

The thing is with trades, all the other GMs know how fucked we are and have us by the balls. Like I said I think Luongo might go. |

Get the first line sorted, and they will win even with a rookie goalie! |

ah crap... Lidstrom ended his career! 50 footer what!
Some goalies crack when it come to the second season. His regular season stats from 01-02 till 03-04 are pretty good. The Canucks at least made the playoffs then. The West Coast express era was one of the best in Canuck history. Oh wait that's that first line thing again. |

short and sweet, you're an idiot.
You have a team that is 2 players away from having 4 good lines, has great defence, and the best goaltender in the league. to find those two players you have 18 million dollars in cap room and a few very good defencemen to trade. you also have a second round pick in 2009 if you wanted to start doing up offer sheets. you could also get more players through free agency, which still has a lot of skilled forwards. you have 2 months. |

^Did I miss something? Rawb's assessment is pretty much bang on. Add a first line (2 players) and we have 4 lines that could stack up with the best of them.
Our 2nd (Sedins) and 3rd line are arguably the best in the league (with exception of maybe Detroit now). |

The only thing is if we don't sign Sundin we might be a bit rough. |

Really? I think a healthy morrison + naslund combo currently could only put up ~100 points unless paired with a stud. Anyways, Morrison only can contribute while healthy, and 130 points is worse than Sedins pull out in a season with a monkey playing finisher. Naslund put up 2nd line numbers last year and he has completely lost his shot. I mean from last year we have only lost ~80 points total if we see those two go. I think between our cap room and our 3rd line we can make up the difference. It would be great to finally have a team that isn't paraplegic after you key on one set of players.
Anyways i'm not planning a parade route or anything i'm just offering a counter-example to the general OMG CANUCKS SUCK NOW yip that seems to be prevalent here. I mean, the season starts so far away and moves and signings will happen every day before then. To try to call it now is moronic. Everybody is entitled to their opinion but to me sounding the DOOM ALARM before we take to the ice ever is just classic Vancouver fans shit talk. PS COMPLETELY OFFTOPIC am i the only person hoping to see ryan shannon in a canucks sweater the entire year this year? Dude's a 3rd liner right now but he's fast and smart, although small in stature. 13 points in 27 games last year! |

^Shannon has 1st line potential. Also, I'd like to see Raymond on the 3rd/4th line.
If Gillis were to package Edler+ for a true 1st Line Center/Winger I think a lot of other pieces would start falling into place.` Last edited by omega_image; Jul 07, 08 at 04:53 PM. |

Rumor mill anyone?
How about Demitra signing tomorrow with the Canucks? "9:30PM UPDATE: According to a source, the Vancouver Canucks and UFA forward Pavol Demitra are closing in on a multi-year deal. One source indicated the two sides may have verbally agreed to a deal but we are still awaiting further confirmation. Any deal won't be announced until tomorrow." nhlline.ca Wouldnt put us in a bad place, and if we pulled him in then the prospect for getting Sundin would look a little better as well. Love the off season! Gotta say that at least there are some big changes going on. I love Naslund an Mo, but I think a change in location is best for both sides. |
