That's exactly what we did the other way with Backes. I see Rawb's point.

Oilers hire Tambellini as GM, Lowe moves upstairs
canucks lost a great hockey man today. 17 years with one organization, but with the Gillis hiring it meant no room for Tamby to get any higher. Him and Lowe and MacT go way back with Hockey Canada - great signing for the Oilers, making an already great rivalry even more intense. *edited for positivity* Last edited by littlejon; Jul 31, 08 at 12:58 PM. |

How can you constantly criticize Vancouver's team over the last year, then get stoked when one of the teams key decision makers gets hired as your GM? Weird how you have such a hate-on for the Canucks you need to spin any news as anti-Vancouver.
Steve obviously was ready to be a GM, but i think everyone can agree bringing him on instead of Gillis would signify a continuation of the Burke/Nonis dynasty. The ownership wanted to get away from that, and there was no place for him after Gillis came on. He's leaving with full blessing of the Canucks, as the Canucks have him under contract and would have to release him or allow him to talk to other teams. Good for him for landing his first big job, the Oilers are a fast and young team who have gotten better over the summer. Through either bad luck, or bad deals, Lowe was a below average GM so I'm sure Steve will be given a lot of leeway. Steve is a great guy but this is hardly a defection, though it is kind of funny that after all of the Lowe/Burke spats, the Oilers get a pragmatic Burke-lite system GM. You're avoiding the point. The Canucks looked back at the last 5 years and said "we want to do something different with this club, we want to change the guard." So we did. That doesn't mean ST sucks, it means his philosophy didn't match the way the Canucks wanted to go.
My question to you: Do you like the Canucks teams that have been fielded for the past few seasons? Do you like the trades we have made? Do you like the players we put on the ice? If the answer is YES then you should be stoked you nabbed one of our biggest head office guys who made it all possible. I suspect, since you've done nothing but complain about the Canucks since you joined this board, that this is not the case. You're excited by someone whos work you've constantly rated as shitty. You are either insulting your own intelligence or you have been bullshitting all along. Take your pick. |
