Wow. Undefeated in the pre-season thus far. Yeah, I know it's JUST the pre-season, but considering the team had practically lost half its defense by the end of last year's pre-season, this may prove to be a good omen.

a good captain affects other player's work ethic even when the captain is not on the ice with them. i don't know how much of a motivator he is in the locker room. But if the other players believe in him they won't want to let him down. so captain lu might work.

what a pre-season! we have so many characteristics that we didn't have in recent years. Like a stronger fore check and stronger odd man rushes from the blue line. and we've lost so many bad 'canuck' characteristics that plagued us for so long. For instance, we didn't shit the bed and blow a perfectly good lead! This might be a great season after all with so many players trying to prove their worth!

sometimes i hate the canucks organization, like when they go bizarro and give Lou the C or try to make that new Pink song our goal celebration. Or when they tell us all summer about our "Plan B" if Sundin doesn't sign and then seemingly reveal that "Plan B" is "Hope for the best"

but sometimes when we do things like load up on bottom 6 forwards to spurn insane competition and keep our rooks up on the team this long to give them a legitimate shot on the team it makes me realize this management really does want to be different.

fuck did you see how fast our team is, makes me think of buffalo a couple years ago.

I knew that the additions that we made were the best that Gillis could do. What I didn't realize is how good Mason Raymond is, and is going to be the next few seasons. That guy is fast!

Lets cross our fingers. We have seen two defencemen break through the past couple of seasons. Maybe it's time for a forward to do the same. I just wonder who we will end up with with so much cap space availible.

meh, i just don't see it. He doesn't have the speed or strength for the nhl, send him back to junior he can play 4 months there until he's eligible for ahl. a month of that time is spent in a leadership role along side traveras at the world juniors, sounds like a better plan for development then riding the bench, taking unnecesary penalties.

The Vancouver Canucks announced today that Cody Hodgson will return to Brampton for the 2008-09 season.


Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver Canucks General Manager Mike Gillis announced today that the Canucks have acquired defenceman Shane O’Brien and right wing Michel Ouellet in exchange for defenceman Lukas Krajicek and right wing Juraj Simek from the Tampa Bay Lightning. O’Brien will report to Vancouver and Ouellet will report to Manitoba.

O’Brien, 25, spent the 2007-08 season with the Tampa Bay Lightning, recording 21 points (4-17-21) in 77 games played. The Port Hope, Ontario-native has played in 158 NHL games, scoring six goals and 31 assists for a total of 37 points and recording 330 penalty minutes. The 6’2”, 235-pound defenceman was selected in the eighth round, 250th overall in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by the Anaheim Ducks.

Ouellet, 26, has played in 187 career NHL games with Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh, registering 116 points (52-64-116). The 6’0”, 201-pound right wing was named to the AHL All-Rookie Team in 2004. Born in Rimouski, Quebec, Ouellet was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the fourth round, 124th overall in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.

brit, you're right. hodgson wasn't ready. you could see it clearly in his play. But the kid has skill. I'm liking our two new pick ups in O'Brien and Ouellete.

Watch how heavy the bandwagon gets if we win our first couple of games.

hodgson was never ready but we kept him around for almost the maximum number of games to get his pro-level experience up as well as gauge his skill for contract purposes.

the trade is basically us getting a big, strong d-man and giving up a fast, young d-man with nhl experience who wasn't going to make the team.

The Canucks had plenty of legitimate candidates and options for the captaincy before they had to turn left down Gimmick Street this week. This is clearly nothing more than a stroke of Roberto's ego in hopes of persuading him to re-sign next summer.

And if Gillis and his boys think that's what it's going to take to help keep Roberto in Vancouver, it sure isn't saying much about the rest of the equation. In fact, it reeks of desperation. To assume anything more would make you a member of the Gillis family tree.
