Yes, so: what do you call a team captain who doesn't get to wear the "C," is unable to take ceremonial faceoffs, can't skate to centre ice to argue calls with the refs, and basically won't be doing anything captain-related whatsoever except muttering vaguely inspirational platitudes to a dressing room full of AHLers and real, live, actual captain-eligible players who can't figure out why the their team would name a goaltender captain when the NHL's Rule 14D explicitly prohibits it?

You call him Roberto Luongo — or Bobby Lou if you're an insufferable ass cheering for a doomed team.

anyways whats your deal man, nobody around here really has strong feelings positive or negative about the oilers, whats with all the vancouver-hate?

seriously though - luongo being named captain is just dumb. if ohlund and mitchell are going to be acting as captain anyway, why not make them co-captains, and have luongo alternate?

i will admit, the canucks have surprised in preseason. that being said, the oilers went 5-2 (looking dominant) in preseason last year, and promptly started the regular season 3-6.

lots of people here think its dumb too, but i hardly see it affecting the game or an indication of anything on the ice.

i also think they new jerseys are stupid.

from my experience playing hockey, my play has never changed one bit based on how close the captain was to me on the ice. there's no team in the league who has had players suddenly burst into tears and stop playing because there is nobody with a C patting them on the back and telling them life will be all right. to me, the captain comes into play in the dressing room and outside the rink. there are duties that A's and C's need to preform that any of our 3 A's can do.

the only deficiency i see is the fact luongo doesn't sit on the bench between plays, but i don't think the C has a monopoly on leadership in that respect.

that being said im not a 100% fan of it but i can see where their reasoning is.

but seriously what is with the torrent of uppity anti-canucks oilers fans this season? is there some rivalry we missed? i've noticed this other places too.

playing the oilers is like playing the coyotes to me, just another game.
