Not really, no.

I think a lot of unions in this day and age are pretty damn spoiled.

Also: just because they have social justification for their platforms does not make them competent to keep the economy in balance. Just look at Harcourt (well, okay, he was corrupt) or Clark (excellent example of great philosophies rendered pointless by failed policies).

It's kinda sad that we ousted the NDP right after they got the first premier who has economic experience needed and could have probably proven to be the first fiscally responsible NDP leader. Then again, I don't really like Dosanjh that much.

Now yes, I know that the federal NDP and provincial NDP are different, but I see a lot of similarities both in fiscal experience and in platform, so I have the same skepticism.

Again, it comes down to candidates for me. If Svend Robinson were to run in my riding, I'd vote him in a second. Otherwise I'm probably looking elsewhere.

Anyone else kind of amused how here in Canada we can call an election and have it happen in a month and a half. While our neighbors in the South have taken what? Over a year now?

I'm too fiscally conservative to support the NDP.

good ideas, ok people, but not the party for me.

but hey, whatever floats people's boats. some people in this thread like stephen harper (I've met scones with more personality.)

Whatever happened to conservative candidates that weren't scary no personality neo cons bible warriors? I miss the days of the joe clarks and peter mckays.

Alex is on a distinguished road
By the way, you realize that Hurricanes/natural disasters/acts of god happened long before industrialization? The world is a volatile place, as is climate, just because their's a lot of hype around 'man made global warming' or 'man made climate change' doesn't in any way whatsoever, mean that all natural catastrophe's are directly caused by humans. Maybe you should stop sucking that hypocrite Al Gore and also that delusional nut job David Suzuki's cocks, and think for yourself.

ZOMG we had more snow fall than usual last year it must be our fault because we gave off too much carbon! What? A tornado in Kansas? A Hurricane in Florida? Climate Change strikes again!

Let's deny the fact overconsumption is going to make water the next resource war. Thing is that turnaround in legislature for the states is every two years (even though congressmen/women serve 6 year terms, they're offset). So Americans can have fixed election dates and not have too many problems. Also, in the states their executive offices are elected separately from their legislature, which means that you don't run into the same problems with minority governments that come out of Canada's legislative process.

The way that our government is designed there NEEDS to be variable electoral dates. If a minority government, for instance, is unable to pass a budget, an election will have to be called in order to re-balance the power so that a proper budget can get passed through.

What worries me most at this point is that a conservative majority will just convince Harper that all the bills that he lollygagged on that haven't faced votes in parliament are thereby approved of by the people. This includes C-61 which has me worried.

do you honestly believe the ONLY environmental problem the world faces is climate change? please don't tell me you do.

ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES ARE NOT JUST GLOBAL WARMING, PLEASE GET IT THROUGH YOUR THICK SKULL.

thanks.

I also find it horrible you are telling people to think for yourself when you obviously can't do the same yourself.

i dunno myra. when you say they seem to call elections when the country is disinterested (but more interested in the election down south) it makes me think that we do have politics in mind, but not our own. Perhaps thinking about the american government and how important a change in leadership for them is would make us realize how important OUR decision will be. Maybe it IS a good time to vote?

Alex, you may not believe in global warming. but the polar bears do. As for natural disasters being around since before industrialization? did you really need to say that? How about smog? was smog around before industrialization? probably not. And smog directly affects our ability breath. Whether the planet is 'dying' or not, we are damaging our own health. Is that enough of a reason to make the environment a more important policy? How about fossil and alternative fuels? The cost for fuels is going up, regardless of the reason. That affects me because I drive. And it affects everyone else because it inflates the cost of everything (from food costs to trades people salaries). We need to address the issue amongst other things.

With elections being so close, and idiots like Alex voting on our next leader... i think i'm going to move to mexico.

No, the reason for that is the politically-controlled circus that the American fourth estate has become.

With FOX in the GOP's pocket, MSNBC in the Dem's, and CNN just selling out to whoever will give them a sound byte, of course they're going to report on whatever the parties want them to. And the parties would rather people focus on a long drawn-out presidential race than really give a damn about what the current president is doing.

Someone also pointed out for me that it's pretty common for a presidential primary process to be drawn out like this after a two-term president, it's just rare that it's so drawn out on the non-incumbent party side (in this case the Dems). Also it's exceptionally rare that the incumbent VP is not one of the candidates.

They drew it out this long because the media let them. And the media let them because on average Americans don't really give a damn what they're spoonfed, as long as they can take their melatonin to get to sleep at night.

That's one thing that's definitely true.

The best that people who are concerned about the environment can do is elect governments who share those concerns. Then those govt's can use those mandates to enact change, and force non-believers like our friend into using biodegradable products against his will. :D

But this is just one of those issues that people get entrenched on. Like the host of my fav radio show says... "It's not like we're going to have this show, and I'll state my view and at the end of the show you'll be like 'hmm.. I never thought of abortion that way... I'm all turned around on it now!' "

LOL think for myself? You should talk with your half assed arguments and your equating environmental beliefs with religious cults. I was not merely referring to natural disaster. It's obvious here, without me having to own you, that you're delirious and in the wrong. Why not bring out some Nazi Germany analogies or join GSG9 in being the mouthpiece of rhetoric that was constructed by focus groups beyond your understanding. It just shows the unoriginality in your thought when you start saying climate change is just sensationalism to sell papers. You obviously have not looked at the wide swath of information available in support of my argument and I'm not going to bother to articulate it for you junior. Not worth my time. It's obvious in the many arguments in which I shut you up that you are incapable of thinking outside of your sandbox. Last reply, no use arguing if you're going to make lame stabs at peoples intelligence when it's obvious you need to stoop to that level.

Again, I'm gonna vote for the guy who represents what I think. I don't know who that is yet because I haven't found out who's in my riding.

You'd be surprised what a hand-written letter to your MP can get done for you.
